Purpose

The geologic map of the of the Dalton Highway area from Atigun Gorge to Slope Mountain is one of a series of geologic maps selected by the Alaska Division of Geological & Geophysical Surveys (DGGS) for detailed mapping (1:63,360-scale) to document important stratigraphic and structural relationships at the Brooks Range mountain front and in the adjacent northern foothills. New detailed geologic mapping of the quadrangle will provide stratigraphic control to document the transition from units in NPRA to units in ANWR and help correlate rocks in these areas to the Prudhoe Bay oilfield.
