This dataset consists of select contaminants of emerging concern (CEC) including pesticides and transformation products, pharmaceuticals and transformation products, and wastewater indicator compound results measured in 131 surface water, 129 bottom sediment, 7 field replicate, and 6 field blank samples collected from 131 sites located on 27 tributaries of the Great Lakes during the summer of 2019. This data release includes concentrations of contaminants of emerging concern (CEC), by chemical class, for sites sampled within 25 river basins in the U.S. portion of the Great Lakes basin and associated watershed characteristics. The CEC data include concentrations in surface water and sediment samples that were collected during 2010-2014. During the first 3 years, sample sites near mostly urban areas were chosen. The last two years of study focused on other point sources and few nominal reference sites. The U.S. Geological Survey, in cooperation with the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency, conducted a study to determine the occurrence of micropollutants in: (1) shallow groundwater near large subsurface treatment systems and rapid infiltration basins and (2) shallow groundwater and soil from an agricultural field that land applies domestic wastewater. This dataset consists of 262 variables which describe various known and suspected point and non-point sources of contaminants and endocrine disrupting compounds (EDCs) throughout the Chesapeake Bay Watershed. Contaminant data was summarized to the NHDPlus Version 2.1 catchment level (1:100K). Contaminant data summarized span a time range of 2001 to 2016 and include regulated facilities, pesticides, manure and biosolids application data, mercury deposition, animal feeding applications, septic systems, landfills, and land use and land cover. This data release documents water-quality data obtained as part of an assessment of compounds of emerging concern (CECs) measured in samples collected at potable water and wastewater treatment plants in Dallas and downstream from Dallas in the Trinity River from August 2009 to December 2013 by the U.S. Geological Survey in cooperation with the City of Dallas, Dallas Water Utilities. This data set contains the concentration results for water- and sediment-quality and tissue samples, as well as associated quality-assurance data, collected at sampling locations located in the Rocky Mountain National Park, Colorado. Samples were collected between 2012 and 2013. Samples were analyzed for nutrients, hormones, pharmaceutical, wastewater indicator compounds and pesticides, at the U.S. Geological Survey, National Water Quality Laboratory and the Organic Chemistry Research Laboratory, Sacramento, California. Bioassay analyses were performed at the National Fish Health Laboratory in Kearneysville, West Virginia. This data release provides water chemistry results and quality assurance data for samples collected from Great Lakes tributaries in the states of Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, Indiana, Ohio, and New York. In total, 158 chemicals were analyzed which are primarily pharmaceuticals. Between one and four water samples were collected at 37 sampling locations between November 2017 and July 2018 resulting in a total of 87 environmental, 95 field replicate, and 15 field blank samples. Of the 158 chemicals analyzed, 23 chemicals were detected in at least one regular sample. Detections per site ranged from 0 to 12 chemicals at concentrations of 1.56 to 30900 nanograms per liter.
