The Historic Images Collection includes approximately 15,500 photographs, slides, lantern slides and digital media in this collection were taken during the course of geologic, mineral resource, and geologic hazard investigations carried out by Virginia Energy staff beginning in the first half of the 20th century. The collection includes images of important rock outcrops that demonstrate key features of stratigraphic units, fossils indicative of the age of rock formations, outcrop-scale geologic structures such as faults and folds, economically significant minerals and mine sites, and geologic hazards such as landslides and sinkholes. The collection comprises the Arizona mineral exploration files (mostly for gold and copper) of Cambior Exploration USA Inc. The collection also includes information from acquired companies Westmont Mining and Nicor Mineral Ventures Inc. It contains exploration data as well as submittal information gathered during the 1980s through 1999. Data was not received for some of the company’s major projects during the period, for example Newsboy and Carlota.

Richard (Dick) Hahman was born in Buffalo, New York, in 1936. He grew up in coal mining towns in Pennsylvania, then later in Washington, D.C. He received his master's in geology from the University of West Virginia. His career took him through the U.S., Canada, Mexico, and Chile. He worked for several companies in Tucson, Arizona, before going to work for Conoco Inc. in Oklahoma City in the early 1980s. In the late '80s he started his consulting company, Hahman & Associates, in Las Cruces, New Mexico. He moved back to Tucson around 1997. The collection contains geologic reports, drill logs, maps, assays, photos and field notes from exploration in Arizona and New Mexico.

Most projects conducted by the MWRA have attached to them a geotechnical report and accompanying environmental information. There are also eighteen marine drilling reports on work in the Boston Harbor, as well as, two hardbound copies on the Geology of the Waschusett Reservoir Area. All reports are stored in the library at the main facility in Chelsea; however, not all project managers turn over reports to the librarian for storage. Most projects conducted by the MWRA, related to the construction of water and sewer lines, have attached with them, a geotechnical report and accompanying environmental information. This dataset is a collection of unpublished geologic field notebooks and links to corresponding "Unpublished Geologic Map Collection from VA" (i.e., field maps) that represent over 100 years of field data collected by Virginia geological survey staff. These field records include notes, geologic cross-sections, hand-drawn field maps, and stratigraphic sections from various mapping projects across the Commonwealth. All are unique, one-of-a-kind documents. Some field notebooks have been scanned and are available in PDF format. Some corresponding field maps are scanned and are available in PDF format.

The sinkhole locations shown on these maps have been digitized and are available as a draft ESRI shapefile. DGMR plans to complete a quality control analysis and modifications of the digital representation of these locations prior to release to the public.

This collection contains cuttings from stratigraphic tests drilled in the Jackson Purchase region of Kentucky during the U.S. Geological Survey / Kentucky Geological Survey geologic mapping program between 1960 and 1978. Physical samples are stored at the KGS Earth Analysis Research Library.

High-significance paleontological samples, most are cataloged. Includes collections of trilobites, Ordovician echinoderms, plant fossils, crinoids, conodonts, brachiopods, fusulinids, mollusca, corals, Paleocene fossils, blastoids, and several miscellaneous collections. Includes the Worthen Type and Figured Collection (mid 1800s, see ISGS Circular 524), approximately 4000 mostly Pennsylvanian and Mississippian samples primarily collected by M. Weller in the 1930's, and approximately 100 generally small collections of type, figured, or numbered specimens were cataloged starting in the 1950's.

Oklahoma completion reports from first nine decades of the 1900s. 94 shelves plus 30 cabinets of completion forms for Oklahoma. Forms are sorted by section-township-range but are derived from several collections which have not been merged. It is no longer being added to; the Oklahoma Corporation Commission began to scan completion reports and make them available digitally.
