This feature class was created to assemble oil and gas well information for a comprehensive inventory of energy data pertinent to the Wyoming Landscape Conservation Initiative decision-making process. These data are available as online resources for scientists, resource managers engaged in the Initiative, and other researchers. The GIS data and map services created for this study are available for interactive analysis and/or download at the Energy Geoscience Center WLCI website.

The dwarf shrew (Sorex nanus) is one of the smallest mammals in the world, and inhabits a variety of habitats in western North America. Very little is known about this shrew, and relatively few specimens have been collected. Like most members of Soricidae, the dwarf shrew has a long and pointed nose, small eyes and ears, and a small body. It is difficult to distinguish from other shrews and generally has to be identified by dental characteristics. The dwarf shrew occurs primarily in mountainous areas, apparently preferring rock outcrops and talus slopes in alpine, subalpine, and montane settings. However, it has been occasionally found in lower and more arid environments such as shortgrass prairie, shrub-steppe,...

This data set defines boundaries of oil and gas project areas, greater sage-grouse (Centrocercus urophasianus) core areas, and non-core and non-project areas within the Wyoming Landscape Conservation Initiative (WLCI; southwestern Wyoming). Specifically, the data represents results from the manuscript “Combined influences of future oil and gas development and climate on potential Sage-grouse declines and redistribution” for high oil and gas development, low population size, and no climate component. The oil and gas development scenario were based on an energy footprint model that simulates well, pad, and road patterns for oil and gas recovery options that vary in well types (vertical and directional) and number...

Specifically, the data represents results from the manuscript “Combined influences of future oil and gas development and climate on potential Sage-grouse declines and redistribution” for low oil and gas development, low population size, and with effects of climate change under an RCP 8.5 scenario (2050). The oil and gas development scenario were based on an energy footprint model that simulates well, pad, and road patterns for oil and gas recovery options that vary in well types...

The Long-billed Curlew (Numenius americanus) is the largest bird in the sandpiper family (Scolopacidae), and one of only nine species of grassland birds that is considered endemic to the Great Plains (Dugger and Dugger 2002). This curlew species has the southernmost breeding distribution and northernmost wintering distribution of the four curlew species found in North America (Dugger and Dugger 2002). It breeds in the Great Plains, Great Basin, and intermontane valleys of the western U.S. and southwestern Canada (Dugger and Dugger 2002). The Longbilled Curlew is cinnamon-brown above, and buff below, with a very long, strongly downcurved bill (Field Guide to the Birds of North America 1999). Cinnamon-buff wing...

This coverage contains land status and Federal mineral ownership for approximately 37,800 square miles in southern Wyoming. The polygon coverage contains two attributes of ownership information for each polygon. One attribute indicates where the surface is State owned, privately owned, or, if Federally owned, which Federal agency manages the land surface. The other attribute indicates which minerals, if any, are owned by the Federal govenment. This coverage is based on land status and Federal mineral ownership data compiled by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) and the Wyoming State Bureau of Land Management (BLM) at a scale of 1:24,000. These data were compiled primarily to serve the USGS National Oil and Gas Resource...

USGS staff created this data (July 2008) from existing NHD - High resolution data and Level 5 and 6 HUC data created by WyGISC. Several data gaps exist in the NHD Level 5 and 6 HUC data. WyGISC data was used to supplement the NHD data in these cases. Topology enforced HUC dataset. This file contains Hydrologic Unit boundaries and codes for the United States, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. The data is a seamless National representation of Hydrologic Unit Code (HUC) boundaries at HUC2 to HUC12 levels compiled from U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) National Hydrography Dataset (NHD) and U.S. Department of Agricultural (USDA) National Resources Conservation Services (NRCS) Watershed Boundary Dataset (WBD) sources.
