Creates wetland habitats on public and private lands near the Green River. This project provides much needed habitat through the creation of 20 acres of wetland area, including a pond. Synopsis: This project will enhance swan habitat by creating 5-6 acres of additional shallow water foraging/nesting habitat adjacent to the New Fork River, and create nesting islands on the existing ranch reservoir. Introduction: Trumpeter Swans require shallow-water wetlands that produce extensive, luxuriant, and diverse stands of submerged aquatic vegetation. These kinds of wetlands, with some recognized physical and biological characteristics, fulfill functions important for swans of all age classes. The following information...

This map shows the Trumpeter Swan conservation element data in the CYR study region. Layers include: Current potential habitat distribution for trumpeter swan in the CYR study area; Current (2010s), near-term future (2020s), and long-term future (2060s) growing season length and the potential habitat distribution of Trumpeter Swan; Current (2010s), near-term future (2020s), and long-term future (2060s) mean annual ground temperature and the potential habitat distribution of Trumpeter Swan; Current, near-term, and long-term landscape condition within the potential habitat distribution of trumpeter swan. These data are provided by Bureau of Land Management (BLM) "as is" and may contain errors or omissions. The User...
This project involves the establishment of a 5.5 acre wetland for waterfowl and water bird habitat, including specific habitat developments for swans. Establishing secure, shallow water summer habitat is the most important management priority for swans in the upper Green River area.
Translocations are a common conservation technique; however, the feasibility and success of translocations are evaluated rarely. We translocated 57 trumpeter swans (Cygnus buccinator) from Idaho to previous termUtahnext term during 1996 to encourage migration to more southern wintering areas. We evaluated the feasibility and success of the translocation by studying biological and socio-political criteria prior to and during the translocation. Lack of support from governmental and non-governmental agencies did not allow additional translocations in subsequent years. Additional releases are needed, however, to increase the probability of swan returns to the release area. Our evaluation explores the possibility that...

Montana Department of Fish, Wildlife and Parks (MTFWP) has been involved with developing a crucial areas statewide Decision Support System (DSS) since 2008 in parallel with activities from the Western Governors Association (WGA). In April, 2010, the Crucial Areas Planning System (CAPS) was released. Also in 2010, the WGA provided funding to the 18 western states to begin developing DSSs for crucial areas among and between the 18 western states. MTFWP will be piloting a transboundary DSS for fish, wildlife, and habitats along the Idaho-Montana Divide, beginning in July 2010. MTFWP will also participating in a dual role of advisory and collaboration with the Washington, Oregon and Idaho Columbia Plateau pilot project.This...
