These are terrestrial laser scanner datasets collected in forested areas west of Flagstaff, Arizona in 2015 and 2016. For each of the two scanners, six treatment areas were scanned, with four of them overlapping one another (Figure 1). These data are composed of individual scans referenced to one another using reflective targets, and geolocated using differentially corrected GPS and RTK locations of scan locations (Figure 3). There were overall large differences in point density among the two scanners (Figure 2).

Ecological conditions within forest stands are also important indicators of ecosystem integrity. Priority wildlife species are frequently shown to exhibit preference for a specific range of conditions of canopy cover and basal area, tree diameter, midstory cover, and other forest characteristics within a stand. The ISA recommends a range of overstory canopy cover between 20-80% for upland hardwood woodlands and >80% for upland hardwood forests in the Ozark Highlands subgeography. The 2005 Western Washington Land Cover Change Analysis project was to provide land cover data for Western Washington for a 1991 time frame and a comprehensive analysis of change in land cover, impervious surface, and forest canopy for all of Western Washington between 1991 and 2001.
