The U.S. Geological Survey, in cooperation with Colorado Springs Utilities, has been collecting topographic data annually since 2012 at 10 study areas along Fountain Creek, Colorado. The 10 study areas are located along Fountain Creek between Colorado Springs and the confluence of Fountain Creek and the Arkansas River in Pueblo. This data release presents topographic survey data, Light Detection and Ranging (lidar) survey data, and elevation rasters collected or generated during 2020 as part of that monitoring effort. Topographic survey points were collected using real-time kinematic Global Navigation Satellite Systems (RTK-GNSS). These point data, along with lidar point clouds, were used to generate 2020 digital...

This dataset contains topographic (horizontal and vertical) data for 20 sites, surveyed November 6 to November 28, 2017 as part of documentation of flooding that occurred in Puerto Rico during and after Hurricane Maria (September to November 2017). Hurricane Maria hit the Island of Puerto Rico on September 20, 2017 and was one of the deadliest storms in U.S. history. USGS personnel conducted topographic surveys at selected stream sites to facilitate hydraulic modeling of peak streamflows (or discharges) – termed indirect measurements – using published standard USGS methods. Indirect (post-flood) measurements are used to characterize flood peaks that could not be determined using direct methods (for example current-velocity...

In 2012, the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) in cooperation with Colorado Springs Utilities selected 10 study areas along Fountain Creek between Colorado Springs, Colorado and the confluence of Fountain Creek with the Arkansas River for annual geomorphic monitoring. The purpose of this data release is to present topographic survey data, rasters , and sediment size data collected in 2019 as part of that monitoring effort. Topographic survey points were collected using real-time kinematic Global Navigation Satellite Systems (RTK-GNSS). These point data were interpolated to generate digital elevation maps (2015 and 2019) and elevation-change maps (from 2015 to 2019) at each study area . In 2019, two types of Unmanned...

In 2012, the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) in cooperation with Colorado Springs Utilities selected 10 study reaches along Fountain Creek between Colorado Springs, Colorado and the confluence of Fountain Creek with the Arkansas River for annual bed and bank characterization and topographic surveys. The 10 study reaches are approximately 5 to 20 bank-full channel widths in length. Data were collected in 2018 that are similar in method and scope as data collected from 2012 to 2017.Topographic survey points were collected using real-time kinematic Global Navigation Satellite Systems (RTK-GNSS). Pebble-count data were collected at all 10 study reaches and included 4 measurements of grain size at each of 25 equally spaced...

Field-based real-time kinematic (RTK) GNSS surveys of water surface elevation and channel bed topography were collected along the Blue River, focusing on two cross-sections from which remotely sensed data were obtained. These data were used to assess the accuracy of river bed elevations inferred from the ASTRALiTe bathymetric lidar, acquired from an unmanned aircraft system (UAS). These data sets were collected to support research focused on developing innovative methods for non-contact measurement of river discharge based on various forms of remotely sensed data. The RTK GNSS surveys were performed using a local base station and Trimble R8 and R10 receivers while wading the channel at each cross-section. Additional...

Bathymetric and topographic surveys were collected along an approximately 47-kilometer reach of the Colorado River beginning at the Pumphouse Recreation site and extending downstream to the USGS streamgage located near the Colorado River Road (Catamount) bridge. The surveys were collected using real-time kinematic Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) receivers by USGS personnel during several time periods between May 13, 2021, through July 26, 2023, using a combination of sonar and wading techniques. The wading surveys include point data that are provided as comma-delimited text files of northing, easting, elevation, and point code. The sonar surveys include point data that are provided as comma-delimited text...

This data release provides topographic (horizontal and vertical) data for 58 sites, surveyed March 12, 2018 to July 18, 2019 as part of documentation of flooding that occurred in Puerto Rico during and after Hurricane Maria (September to November 2017). Hurricane Maria made landfall on the Island of Puerto Rico on September 20, 2017 and was one of the deadliest storms in U.S. history. The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) personnel conducted topographic surveys at selected stream sites for hydraulic modeling studies to establish new stage-discharge relations for sites at which flooding substantially changed the pre-existing relation. The standard-step hydraulic method, often referred to as the step-backwater method,...

A topographic and bathymetric survey was collected along a reach of the Green River downstream of Dinosaur National Monument. The surveyed reach extends approximately 16 kilometers upstream and 6 kilometers downstream of the U.S. Route 40 bridge near Jensen, Utah. The topographic and bathymetric data include survey point data for 382 cross sections over 22 kilometers and are provided as a text file of easting, northing and elevation, in meters. The cross-section location data were collected using real-time kinematic Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) by USGS personnel from March 26, 2018, through March 29, 2018 using a combination of Sound Navigation and Ranging (SONAR) and wading techniques.
