These tables serve as input data for hierarchical models investigating interactions between raven density and Greater Sage-grouse nest success. Observations were recorded over an 11 year time period, spanning from 2009 through 2019. The model is run in JAGS via R, the code is publicly available via the U.S. Geological Survey's GitLab (O'Neil et al. 2023). We recommend not making any changes or edits to the tables unless the user is experienced with hierarchical modeling. Post-fire regrowth is an important component of carbon dynamics in Canada's boreal forests, yet observations of structural development following fire are lacking across this remote and expansive region. Here, we used Landsat time-series data (1985–2010) to detect high-severity fires in the Boreal Shield West ecozone of Canada, and assessed post-fire structure for > 600 burned patches (> 13,000 ha) using airborne light detection and ranging (lidar) data acquired in 2010. We stratified burned areas into patches of dense (> 50% canopy cover) and open (20–50% canopy cover) forests based on a classification of pre-fire Landsat imagery, and used these patches to establish a 25-year chronosequence of structural development...

Although reliable figures are often missing, considerable detrimental changes due to shrinking glaciers are universally expected for water availability in river systems under the influence of ongoing global climate change. We estimate the contribution potential of seasonally delayed glacier melt water to total water availability in large river systems. We find that the seasonally delayed glacier contribution is largest where rivers enter seasonally arid regions and negligible in the lowlands of river basins governed by monsoon climates. By comparing monthly glacier melt contributions with population densities in different altitude bands within each river basin, we demonstrate that strong human dependence on glacier...

The Museum of Northern Arizona will leverage tools previously developed through its Springs Stewardship Initiative to help resource managers in the southwestern U.S. collect, analyze, report upon, monitor and archive the complex and inter-related information associated with springs and spring-dependent species in the region. Building upon those past efforts, the project will include compilation of existing springs-related information to make the information more readily available online and further development of interactive online maps and climate change risk assessment tools of springs-dependent sensitive plant and animal species. This project builds on an effort funded in FY 2013 to complete similar work for...

This data layer summarizes ecological systems and land cover classes described in state-level and national-level maps as Broadly Defined Habitats for groups of species of conservation concern. Each grid cell in the raster is assigned a Condition Index value based on desired condition metrics using ancillary datasets and a decision tree approach for each assessed habitat. Grid cells are also assigned bar code descriptors indicating which metrics contributed to the Condition Index score for that cell. This layer also contains information about potential habitats based on the LANDFIRE Biophysical Settings data layer. This layer was developed to support the next iteration of the Conservation Blueprint developed by the...

This dataset represents predicted survey and manage species probability of occupancy for the current climate, averaged from the occurrence probabilities of 130 survey and manage species. The survey and manage species are rare localized species of concern under the Northwest Forest plan, consisting of 75 species of fungi, 21 species of lichen, 10 species of bryophytes, 8 species of vascular plants, 12 species of mollusks, 2 species of amphibians, one mammal, and one bird. In Carroll and others (in prep.), we evaluate how a system of reserves can be made resilient to climate change. First, we assess how well the NFP's reserve network currently protects habitat for spotted owl and rare "Survey and Manage" species....

Creates wetland habitats on public and private lands near the Green River. This project provides much needed habitat through the creation of 20 acres of wetland area, including a pond. Synopsis: This project will enhance swan habitat by creating 5-6 acres of additional shallow water foraging/nesting habitat adjacent to the New Fork River, and create nesting islands on the existing ranch reservoir. Introduction: Trumpeter Swans require shallow-water wetlands that produce extensive, luxuriant, and diverse stands of submerged aquatic vegetation. These kinds of wetlands, with some recognized physical and biological characteristics, fulfill functions important for swans of all age classes. The following information...

Rasters representing median raven density estimates, calculated from approximately 28,000 raven point count surveys conducted between 2009 and 2019. Estimates were the result of a Bayesian hierarchical distance sampling model, using environmental covariates on detection and abundance.

This dataset represents projected survey and managed species probability of occupancy for the climate of 2061-2090, averaged from the occurrence probabilities of 130 survey and managed species. Climate data were drawn from three representative climate projections: lowest warming (GCM GISS_ER with IPCC storyline B1), moderate warming (GCM ECHAM5 SRES with storyline A2), and highest warming (GCM IPSL_CM4 with storyline A2). In Carroll...

We combined approximately 28,000 raven point count surveys with data from more than 900 sage-grouse nests between 2009 and 2019 within the Great Basin, USA. We modeled variation in raven density using a Bayesian hierarchical distance sampling approach with environmental covariates on detection and abundance. Concurrently, we modeled sage-grouse nest survival using a hierarchical frailty model as a function of raven density as well as other environmental covariates that influence risk of failure. Raven density commonly exceeded more than 0.5 ravens per square kilometer and increased at low relative elevations with prevalent anthropogenic development and/or agriculture. Reduced sage-grouse nest survival was strongly...
