Maps of priority conservation areas were obtained for DOI and USFS protected lands, state wildlife action plans, SARP regional threat assessment maps, TNC ecoregional portfolios (see map on left), and others. Conservation status was assigned to NHD+ river segments. The Aquatic Conservation Area report to the SALCC documents attempts to designate a single set of priority areas from these resources (see link below). Due to inconsistencies in the objectives and methods used to designate priority areas among states and other groups, the effort was not successful for the SALCC. This map depicts the Rivers and Streams Conservation Asset for Florida with road barriers from the Southeast Aquatic Barriers Tool. The number of miles that could be gained through conservation action to remove obstructions are summarized by HUC12 watershed units. River/Stream Connectivity is an ecological indicator for the Landscape Conservation Project for Florida. The project entails a large-scale assessment of and planning for the health of important natural resources, known as Conservation Assets (CAs), in Florida. Conservation planning at the landscape scale provides a framework for safeguarding functional ecosystems, and their interconnected processes necessary to achieve true preservation of healthy resources....

The SARP River Classification Framework provides consistent categories of ecologically relevant attributes for streams and rivers across the region at the NHD+ segment scale. The attributes that are currently available include: 1) stream size: by basin area and mean annual flow; 2) gradient: by average segment slope; 3) EPA Level 3 Ecoregion; 4) TNC Freshwater Ecoregion; and 5) Ecological Drainage Units.  For more detailed information, go to the SIFN page on the SARP website at http://www.southeastaquatics.net/sarps-programs/sifn

The objective of this project was to develop some basic stream classification attributes for the entire Southeast Aquatic Resources Partnership (SARP) region and to provide more detailed attributes in the eastern section of the SARP geography (9 states: AL, FL, GA, KY, NC, SC, TN, WV, VA) where additional data and modeling capacity was available. The final product is a mapped dataset of information linked to the NHDPlus medium resolution hydrography that can be used to classify stream reaches.
