A barrier island seagrass habitat suitability index (HSI) model was developed for the Alabama barrier island restoration assessment at Dauphin Island. Shoal grass (Halodule wrightii) was selected as the representative species for seagrass community near Dauphin Island waters since H. wrightii is the dominant species (>62%) of seagrass communities in this area due to its rapid growth and tolerance to a wide range of salinity. We extracted seagrasses from version 2.0 of the global polygon and point data set that was compiled by UNEP-WCMC in 2005 (for more information about the source data set, e-mail spatialanalysis@unep-wcmc.org). These same data were originally published in the World Atlas of Seagrasses (Green and Short 2003; see, in particular, the chapter by Spalding et al. 2003). The source data for the habitat map were a mix of point and polygon information gathered from a major literature review as well as from national-level mapping programs. This data set contains genetic information collected from eelgrass (Zostera marina) populations along the Pacific coast of North America from Alaska to Baha California. A total of 447 samples were collected comprising 401 unique individuals (genets) and 46 clones (ramets) from which 10 microsatellite DNA loci were obtained.

This is a GIS data layer representing submerged aquatic vegetation (SAV) of the Barnegat Bay - Little Egg Harbor estuary, 2009, developed by classifying high resolution airborne digital camera imagery. Included are the submerged aquatic vegetation densities mapped into three classes throughout the study area and their respective area and perimeter for each polygon. The three classes of SAV are: 1) Dense (80% - 100% cover), 2) Moderate (40% - 80% cover), and 3) Sparse (10% - 40% cover). Compilation of seagrass (submerged aquatic vegetation (SAV) ) from digital benthic habitat data created by National Ocean and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), National Ocean Service (NOS), Coastal Services Center (CSC) from existing digital multi-spectral imagery (ADS-40). NOAA worked cooperatively with Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) and the Texas A&M University Center for Coastal Studies to develop benthic habitat data for several Texas coastal bays.
