The Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation – Natural Heritage Program (DCRDNH) and the Florida Natural Areas Inventory (FNAI) at Florida State University (collectively, Project Partners) were funded by the South Atlantic Landscape Conservation Cooperative (SALCC) in April 2015 to develop ten species distribution models (SDM) of priority at-risk and range-restricted species (Ambystoma cingulatum, Echinacea laevigata, Heterodon simus, Lindera melissifolia, Lythrum curtissii, Notophthalmus perstriatus, Phemeranthus piedmontanus, Rhus michauxii, and Schwalbea americana) for the purposes of incorporating the models and supporting information on the conservation and management needs of the species into the...

This report summarizes the results of a three-year investigation of terrestrial habitat connectivity priorities for the South Atlantic Landscape Conservation Cooperative (South Atlantic LCC). Our primary objective was to generate results that could be used to drive fine‐scaled conservation planning to enhance habitat connectivity across the South Atlantic LCC. The project focused on seven target species, including large mammals (black bear, red wolf, Florida panther/eastern cougar) and a group of terrestrial reptiles (eastern diamondback rattlesnake, timber rattlesnake, pine snake, and box turtle). We used two different modeling approaches to identify areas with either high predicted flow of a given species (Circuitscape)...
We quantified trophic and reproductive functional diversity (SES FDis) of freshwater fish communities and related these measurements to environmental indicators to inform conservation planning actions as part of the South Atlantic Landscape Conservation Cooperative (SALCC). We estimated functional diversity at two different spatial scales (regional and local) using datasets of different sampling intensity and time duration. Our regional-scale analysis measures functional diversity across the SALCC at the sub-basin, or HUC8-scale, using occurrence data obtained from the MARIS and NAS databases. Our local-scale analysis is based on a systematic sampling program conducted by the South Carolina Department of Natural...

The Blueprint 2.0 Data Gallery is a website dedicated to the final Blueprint 2.0 spatial data. This website is located on the South Atlantic Landscape Conservation Cooperative’s Conservation Planning Atlas. On this website, users can explore the final Blueprint 2.0 spatial data as well as the spatial data used to create Blueprint 2.0. This website features an interactive mapping feature so that users who do not have access to desktop GIS can explore the spatial data.

The State of the South Atlantic is a South Atlantic LCC publication designed to help us all understand our living landscapes—from hardwood forests and aquatic diversity in the Piedmont ecoregion to ships unloading freight near historic lighthouses along the shoreline. In addition to highlighting the area’s conservation successes and challenges, the State of the South Atlantic provides a report card for the current condition of our important resources. You can read about all the South Atlantic ecosystems, learn how they currently score in terms of ecological health, and read forecasts for the future. The scores are based on the measurement of key natural and cultural resource indicators, all detailed in the State...

Sea level rise (SLR) and disturbances from increased storm activity are expected to diminish coastal habitats available for sea turtle, seabird, shorebird, and beach mouse nesting by removing habitat as well as inundating nests during critical incubation periods. The goal of our proposed research is to evaluate past nesting patterns of fourteen coastal nesting species and predict future effects of sea level rise on nesting beaches along the South Atlantic Bight. Maps of coastal vulnerability to SLR combined with historical data sets of long-term and spatially extensive nesting habitat will lead to models that enhance our understanding of the complex environmental changes occurring from global climate change and...

Salt marshes classification of the South Atlantic Landscape Conservation Cooperative geography covers the northern Outer Banks (and extreme southeastern Virginia, Back Bay area) south through NC, SC, and Georgia to approximately Sapelo Island. The marsh classification is derived from Landsat 8 OLI imagery acquired in May 14-19, 2014. This georeferenced imagery was atmospherically corrected, mosaicked, and water masked prior to deriving a set of three Normalize Difference Indices (NDX) bands: Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI), Normalized Difference Water Index (NDWI) and Normalized Difference Soil Index (NDSI). Prospective salt marshes and associated tidal non-forested wetlands were classified using object-oriented...

The Blueprint 2.2 Development Process is a final report that explains in detail how the Conservation Blueprint was created. It first provides an overview of the South Atlantic LCC and the Blueprint framework, then combines the metadata available on the Conservation Planning Atlas for all ecosystem maps, ecosystem indicators, ecosystem scores, corridors, and final Blueprint priorities. It is intended to serve as a comprehensive guide to the Blueprint objectives, data sources, and methodology that could enable an interested reader to reproduce the Blueprint independently.

Group Solutions facilitates all of our meetings and workshops. This file contains agendas for the 2015 and 2016 steering committee meetings.
Project Goals and Objectives:1) increase the utility of the International Shorebird Survey (ISS) for making shorebird management and conservation decisions within the South Atlantic Landscape Conservation Cooperative, and2) create a single data management system that can service all partners along the Atlantic coastProject Summary:The utility of the International Shorebird Survey (ISS) has been greatly improved with an upgraded, user-friendly interface for data entry and retrieval. Manomet and ISS have contributed to the increasingly powerful citizen science bird records mechanism in eBird. Historic ISS data collected largely by volunteers as well as professional federal and state biologists over the last 40 years...
