The Pima County Information Technology Department is pleased to introduce PimaMaps, Pima County's next generation web mapping system that will eventually replace the current MapGuide system. The Main MapGuide Map, will remain available for a substantial amount of time while PimaMaps is fully implemented. While MapGuide has been a very reliable web mapping system for many years, it is no longer supported by Autodesk. PimaMaps is based on new technology, provides a more robust and modern interface comparable to Google and Bing, and offers a richer set of functionality beyond what is available with MapGuide. This version of PimaMaps has the following functionality and enhancements that are not available with MapGuide:...

Pima County makes extensive use of Geographical Information System (GIS) technology for making maps. For the Sonoran Desert Conservation Plan, this was an important technology for assembling the extensive existing data, both digital and non-digital, identifying critical gaps in the data and potential remedies, and providing a means for analyzing the information on biological and physical resources over the six million acre study area. SDCP Mapguide was created to display many of the natural resource GIS data layers, but Mapguide is being replaced with PimaMaps. You can use either to make your own overlays on aerial photos, line maps, or USGS topography. Customize your online map while panning and zooming on the...

Congress passed the State Wildlife Grants program (SWG) in 2001 in recognition of the need for funding of wildlife diversity programs. Congress mandated each state and territory to develop a Comprehensive Wildlife Conservation Strategy (now named Wildlife Action Plans) by 2005 in order to continue to receive federal funds through the SWG program. Nevada’s Wildlife Action Plan (WAP) was completed and approved by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) in 2005. Nevada’s WAP has served as a plan of action for state wildlife conservation and funding by targeting the species of greatest conservation need and the key habitats on which they depend. To date, NDOW has received over $11 million in federal dollars through...

This report provides an analysis of the geothermal energy sites on public lands that represent the best opportunities for near-term development. Excerpts from this analysis were published in Assessing the Potential for Renewable Energy on Public Lands, a report from the U.S. Department of the Interior and the U.S. Department of Energy prepared by the National Renewable Energy Laboratory. The assessment report, which focused on the opportunities for electricity generation from solar, wind, biomass, and geothermal resources, was released in February 2003.

Grasslands of the Sky Islands region once covered over 13 million acres in southeastern Arizona and adjacent portions of New Mexico, Sonora, and Chihuahua. Attempts to evaluate current ecological conditions suggest that approximately two thirds of these remain as intact or restorable grassland habitat. These grasslands provide watershed services such as flood control and aquifer recharge across the region, and continue to support dozens of species of concern. Prioritizing conservation interventions for these remaining grassland blocks has been challenging. Reliable data on condition and conservation value of grasslands in the region have not been systematically summarized. State and national boundaries further complicate...

Our mission is to develop and maintain a cost-effective, central information source and inventory of the locations, biology, and status of all threatened, endangered, rare, and at-risk plants and animals in Nevada. We use the best available biological data to continually evaluate conservation priorities for over 700 native animals, plants, and vegetation types, focusing on those that are at greatest risk of extinction or serious decline. As a non-regulatory, independent resource for scientifically objective data, environmental review, and technical assistance and expertise, we support the needs of diverse planning, conservation management, research, education, and economic development activities in Nevada. The...

Texas is home to tens of thousands of native animal and plant species. These species form the fabric of over 800 habitat types, from bottomland hardwood forests, big tooth maple canyons, to black grama grasslands. Hundreds of these species occur only in Texas and nowhere else in the world. The Wildlife Diversity Program works to conserve this fabric for the benefit of current and future generations. Our team includes experts in botany, ornithology, herpetology and invertebrate biology that provide leadership on the conservation of rare species and areas with high conservation value across the state. Regional diversity biologists provide a local resource for landowners as well as leadership within local research,...

This document is a Template for a Data Management Plan (DMP). DMPs are required for all science projects funded by Desert Landscape Conservation Cooperative. Completed DMPs will be stored in each project's item record under Desert LCC Projects. Because DMPs are intended to be dynamic and likly to evolve over the course of a science project, multiple versions may be created for any project. PI's can download this version to use as a Template for their individual submission. When a proposal is identified for funding by the Desert LCC Steering Committee, the Committee will request a written Data Management Plan (DMP) that must be delivered and approved by the Coordinator and Science Coordinator before funds are...

SUMMARY This publication is intended to provide a framework for tri- and binational cooperation between Canada, the United States and Mexico that promotes the conservation and sustainable use of central North American grasslands. It does so by providing a trinational overview of information about the central North American grasslands and the conservation issues faced in the region. This contextual framework seeks to move the conservation agenda forward to the eventual development of a conservation strategy for the grasslands of North America that will integrate, build upon and enhance individual initiatives found in the three countries of North America that could complement each other. RESUMEN El propósito de...
ABSTRACT: To help meet national energy demands, interest has been focused on the coal, oil shale, and uranium deposits of the Upper Colorado River Basin. Several energy output projections for the basin have been presented based upon water availability. Inherent in all these analyses are estimates as to the rate of water use in each energy development. New energy technologies are characterized by parameters extrapolated from small scale energy facilities. The data provide projected costs, conversion efficiencies, and material inputs and outputs. Alternative techniques for process cooling and solids handling provide variable rates of water use which affect other conversion parameters. Results from a mathematical model...
