The emerging multi-LCC Ecological Places in Cities Network integrates the ecological and urban communities to guide and promote conservation practices, such as those across the monarch flyway. The ETPBR LCC is working with a number of other Service programs and external partners to build capacity for the development and implementation of a framework that can be tailored to individual cities of various sizes to evaluate their unique situations and design an urban monarch conservation strategy that optimizes the potential contributions of their urban area. Flow alteration – from new and existing water supply projects, increased urbanization, and drought conditions – is a pervasive threat to aquatic wildlife throughout the Gulf Coast Prairie region. One species susceptible to this threat is Guadalupe Bass, an economically and ecologically important black bass species endemic to Texas. Mapping ecological systems of Kansas and Nebraska expands upon previous work completed for Texas and Oklahoma and advances the desire of regional and state partners to have a consistently mapped seamless land cover for the Great Plains region. Land cover provides the framework to inform wildlife management and conservation decisions by identifying the current landscape configuration. Quantify the amount and types of habitat, by location, currently available is critical to determining where conservation and management resources should be allocated.

This data release contains inputs for and outputs from hydrologic simulations of the southeastern U.S. using the Monthly Water Balance Model, the Precipitation Runoff Modeling System (PRMS), and statistically-based methods. This project provides a better understanding how linkages among surface-water availability, connectivity, and temperature mediate habitat and trophic dynamics of the Fish Creek Watershed (FCW). These interrelated processes form a shifting mosaic of freshwater habitats across the landscape that can be classified, mapped, understood, and modeled in response to past and future climate and land-use change in a spatial and temporal context. The Integrated Ecosystem Model for Alaska project (IEM) uses down-scaled climate models as the drivers of ecosystem change to produce forecasts of future fire, vegetation, permafrost and hydrology regimes at a resolution of 1km. A century of fire exclusion across many forest types in the western U.S. has resulted in unforeseen changes, including high fuel accumulations, high densities of trees, and increasing dominance of fire-intolerant species. These changes are particularly acute in forests that historically experienced high frequency and low severity fires. One of the leading models for helping to understanding temperature and precipitation –PRISM—Parameter-elevation Regressions on Independent Slopes Model—is used in Alaska and parts of Canada as input data in projections that seek to describe future scenarios of change.Currently no PRISM data are available for Northwest Territories. Researchers will develop fine scale PRISM data – 800 meter grids— for the territory. With common data across the region, scientists can better compare scenario planning across the boreal forest. The project is a collaboration among the NWB LCC, the Northwest Territories government, Agriculture Canada and Oregon State University.

The Blueprint prioritizes areas for shared conservation action in the South Atlantic geography. Priorities in Blueprint 2.0 are driven by natural and cultural resource indicator models and a connectivity analysis.The Conservation Blueprint is a living spatial plan for sustaining natural and cultural resources in the face of future change. The Yukon-Kuskokwim Delta (YKD) encompasses the southernmost, warmest parts of the arctic tundra biome and is renowned for its high biological productivity and large subsistence-based human population.
