The dataset was generated for the South Central Plains EPA level III ecoregion which extends through eastern Texas, northwestern Louisiana, southwest Arkansas, and a small portion of southeastern Oklahoma covering approximately 15.2 ha. Contained in the data set are land change causes that occurred between 2001 to 2006 such as forest harvest, surficial mining, and cropland expansion. Only those pixels (30-meter resolution) that have changed during the time period have their cause classified, otherwise no change is indicated between 2001 and 2006. In general, the process to create the data combined an automated and manual interpretation approach of spatial data to correctly identify land change causes. In the approach,...

The National Land Cover Database products are created through a cooperative project conducted by the Multi-Resolution Land Characteristics (MRLC) Consortium. The MRLC Consortium is a partnership of federal agencies (www.mrlc.gov), consisting of the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), the U.S. Forest Service (USFS), the National Park Service (NPS), the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS), the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) and the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS). Previously, NLCD consisted of three major data releases based on a 10-year cycle. These...
The dataset represents hydrological features, extracted from the NHDPlus NHDArea shapefile, that intersect a 1 mile interior coastline buffer along the Gulf of Mexico and Atlantic Ocean coasts within our study area, from Texas to New Jersey. The NHDPlus NHDArea shapefile describes NHD polygonal features of types: Area to be Submerged, BayInlet, Bridge, CanalDitch, DamWeir, Flume, Foreshore, Hazard Zone, Lock Chamber, Inundation Area, Rapids, SeaOcean, Special Use Zone, Spillway, StreamRiver, Submerged Stream, Wash, Water IntakeOutflow, and Area of Complex Channels. NHDPlus is a complex, nationwide dataset features that can be accessed here (last checked 06/16/10): http://www.horizon-systems.com/nhdplus/. Its...

Fragmentation extent of six ecosystem types after European Settlement was analyzed using LANDFIRE data. The ecosystem types includes: Grassland, Shrubland, Conifer, Riparian, Hardwood and Sparse ecosystems. The land use change and fragmentation extents have been analyzed by delineating nine Greater Wildland Ecosystems (GWEs) across NCCSC.

Derived data layer based upon the NHD+ data layer. The layer represents the distance to the perennial streams and is used to model invasive annual grasses and noxious forbs and species assemblages. The NHDPlus Version 1.0 is an integrated suite of application-ready geospatial data sets that incorporate many of the best features of the National Hydrography Dataset (NHD) and the National Elevation Dataset (NED). The NHDPlus includes a stream network (based on the 1:100,000-scale NHD), improved networking, naming, and "value-added attributes" (VAA's). NHDPlus also includes elevation-derived catchments (drainage areas) produced using a drainage enforcement technique first broadly applied in New England, and thus dubbed...
Abstract To aid in parameterization of mechanistic, statistical, and machine learning models of hydrologic systems in the contiguous United States (CONUS), flow-conditioned parameter grids (FCPGs) have been generated describing upstream basin mean elevation, slope, land cover class, latitude, and 30-year climatologies of mean total annual precipitation, minimum daily air temperature, and maximum daily air temperature. Additional datasets of upstream basin area and binary stream presence-absence are provided to help validate queries against the flow-conditioned data. These data are provided as virtual raster tile (vrt) mosaics of cloud optimized GeoTIFFs to allow point queries of the data (see Distribution Information)...

Defining site potential for an area establishes its possible long-term vegetation growth productivity in a relatively undisturbed state, providing a realistic reference point for ecosystem performance. Modeling and mapping site potential helps to measure and identify naturally occurring variations on the landscape as opposed to variations caused by land management activities or disturbances (Rigge et al. 2020). We integrated remotely sensed data (250-m enhanced Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (eMODIS) Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) (https://earthexplorer.usgs.gov/)) with land cover, biogeophysical (i.e., soils, topography) and climate data into regression-tree software (Cubist®). We...

These data were released prior to the October 1, 2016 effective date for the USGS’s policy dictating the review, approval, and release of scientific data as referenced in USGS Survey Manual Chapter 502.8 Fundamental Science Practices: Review and Approval of Scientific Data for Release. This 30-meter data set represents land use and land cover for the conterminous United States for the 2001 time period. The data have been arranged into four tiles to facilitate timely display and manipulation within a Geographic Information System see https://www.sciencebase.gov/catalog/file/get/631405cad34e36012efa329b?name=nlcd01-partitions.jpg.
