The US Prairie Pothole Region (PPR) has experienced some of the highest rates of grassland loss in North America over a time that coincides with dramatic declines in grassland songbird populations yet increasing abundance of most grassland-nesting duck species except for northern pintail. To provide more insight into this contradiction, we propose to capitalize on long-term databases to evaluate how a key population driver nest survival for North American ducks has responded to system changes in the region including landscape and climatic factors. Outcomes of these analyses will contribute to testing primary conservation planning assumptions for the PPJV a vital component of the PPJV Strategic Habitat Conservation...

This collection of files contains temperature data files (.ttd files) downloaded directly from Tiny Tag devices, as well exported temperature data as .csv files for each nest monitored with Tiny Tags by year. File names include Tiny Tag number, site, year, and nest ID..ttd files can be viewed using Tinytag Explorer. Note, however, that the times displayed by Tinytag Explorer are calculated when the data is displayed and depend on the daylight saving settings of the PC at that time. For example, if a .ttd file is opened before and after DST settings change, then all times displayed by Tinytag Explorer will go forward or back. All .csv files were exported using the Tinytag Explorer during the same daylight savings...

Collection of photographs taken during PRISM field work on the Yukon Delta. Photos include those taken of habitat within rapid survey plots (usually taken at the northwest corner of the rapid survey plot boundary), other photos taken within survey plots, completed datasheets, and by crew members.Directories include YKD_PRISM_plot_photos, YKD_PRISM_datasheet_photos, YKD_PRISM_other_plot_photos, and YKD_PRISM_crew_photos.A portion of these data are available on ServCat (https://ecos.fws.gov/ServCat/Reference/Profile/57583).Much of these data have been published in Lyons, J.E., S.C. These data represent reproductive ecology characteristics for 4 species of mature female turtles captured at Elephant Butte Reservoir on the Rio Grande River in New Mexico, during two field survey periods in June 2012 and 2013. Data were collected on female reproductive ecology including clutch size, egg size, timing of egg production, and the percentage of reproductive females using X-radiography. The purpose of these data are to add to the deficient information on the reproductive ecology of four turtle species at the Elephant Butte Reservoir on the Rio Grande and Black River in New Mexico. Data contained in this worksheet were analyzed to determine clutch and egg sizes for four native species of turtles (Apalone...

The mottled duck, a focal species for the Gulf Coast Prairie Landscape Conservation Cooperative, is one of only a few duck species adapted to breeding in southern marshes. A major part of its population spends its entire life cycle within a relatively small coastal area in eastern Texas and western Louisiana. This is a thriving part of the Mississippi and Central Flyways, two of four major waterfowl migration routes in North America. In recent years, the mottled duck’s habitat and surrounding areas have been compromised by urbanization, agricultural development, and changes to the area’s hydrology affecting coastal wetlands. The latter threat includes the ramifications of climate change, such as sea level rise and...

Distribution of Alcid habitat in coastal British Columbia showing relative abundance (RA) by season and overall relative importance (RI). RI is based on project region and not on the province as a whole. British Columbia has been collecting coastal resource data in a systematic and synoptic manner since 1979. Resource information is collected using peer-reviewed provincial Resource Information Standards Committee which include standards for data management and analysis

This file provides data pertaining to shorebird nests found on intensive plots. Each record pertains to a given nest, and contains information on species, location, number of eggs, chronology, and productivity.A portion of these data are available on ServCat (https://ecos.fws.gov/ServCat/Reference/Profile/57583).Much of these data have been published in Lyons, J.E., S.C. This file provides information on shorebirds observed during 10-minutes point counts including date and time, location, weather information, and shorebird observations. These data do not represent all locations where specific avian species may be present, as surveys only occurred in discrete survey plots. Additionally, individual birds may have went undetected within survey plots, as detectability was likely less than 100%, and is a function of many variables, including differences in species, habitat, time-of-year, weather conditions, survey effort, and individual surveyor. The data providers have invested considerable effort in QA/QC, but it is possible that undetected errors remain. It is strongly recommended...

The primary objective of this project was to monitor the growth of shorebird chicks by recapturing them from hatch to fledgling in relation to food abundance and weather conditions. In 2014 and 2015, we attempted to estimate the impacts of trophic mismatch by experimentally creating late hatched broods by refrigerating eggs to delay hatch. Transmitters were then attached to adults and chicks to follow and recapture chick in order to estimate growth rates and survival (see annual protocol documents for further information).Information for the Utqiagvik chick monitoring study were obtained concurrently with information obtained for the Utqiagvik shorebird project and information on chicks and nests included in these...

This dataset includes a polygon vector shapefile illustrating the location of rapid and intensive survey plots surveyed on the Yukon Delta as part of the Program for Regional and International Shorebird Monitoring (PRISM). Many North American shorebird species are experiencing significant population declines, but we have incomplete information about the population sizes and trends for most species. Conservation efforts are underway throughout the Hemisphere to reverse these declines, but we cannot measure the success of those efforts until we have an accurate assessment of population sizes and trends. The Program for Regional and International Shorebird Monitoring (PRISM) is a broad-scale, multi-national effort to monitor both the sizes and trends of shorebird populations (https://www.shorebirdplan.org/science/program-for-regional-and-international-shorebird-monitoring/). PRISM also strives to describe the distribution and habitat...

WFowl01Vol1 depicts known waterfowl habitat areas in twenty-six environmentally sensitive areas along the Arctic, Western and Southwestern coast of Alaska. This data are a combination of duck and geese data digitized from mylar original maps from the Alaska Habitat Management Guides (1985) and updated bulelines from area biologists (1997 and 2001). Data for the following categories were captured: Known spring concentrations - areas where concentrations of one or more species of waterfowl have been observed during spring migration for more than one year. Known nesting concentrations - areas where concentrations of one or more species of nesting waterfowl have been observed during more than one year. Known fall concentations...

This file provides data pertaining to occurrence (i.e., presence) of all bird species encountered during rapid surveys on both rapid and intensive plots. Each record pertains to a unique species observed on a given plot. Therefore, survey plots may have more than one record when more than one species was observed on a given plot. Each species is listed only once per plot and includes species seen or heard both inside and outside (usually within 200 to 300 meters) plot boundaries (including species counted during PRISM surveys - see ‘YKD PRISM rapid survey data’).A portion of these data are available on ServCat (https://ecos.fws.gov/ServCat/Reference/Profile/57583).Much of these data have been published in Lyons,...
