Entire photo-documented sequence from 01 June 2021–09 September 2021, including novel interactions between intraguild predators in southern Florida – the native bobcat (Lynx rufus) and the invasive Burmese python (Python bivittatus). A bobcat depredated an unguarded Burmese python nest and subsequently the python exhibited nest defense behavior following the return of both animals to the nest. Conclusions:The effects of landscape fragmentation depend on habitat structure, landscape context, the predator community, and the impact of parasitism. Hawaii forest birds nesting in Hakalau Forest National Wildlife Refuge were exposed to models of predators near their nests to measure behavioral responses. Responses to potential nest predators included vocalization rate, movement behavior, and nestling feeding. Predators were inert stick, introduced but abundant predator, a rat, and a novel predator, a snake, that does not occur on Hawaii.
Conclusions: Nest predators with different home-range sizes and habitat affinities responded to landscape configuration in different ways. Influence of landscape structure varied across scale. The consequences of climate change for ecosystem structure and function remain largely unknown. Here, I examine the ability of climate variation to explain long-term changes in bird and plant populations, as well as trophic interactions in a high-elevation riparian system in central Arizona, USA, based on 20 years of study. Abundances of dominant deciduous trees have declined dramatically over the 20 years, correlated with a decline in overwinter snowfall.
