PCIC offers statisically downscaled daily climate scenarios, at a gridded resolution of 300 arc-seconds (0.0833 degrees, or roughly 10 km) for the simulated period of 1950-2100. The variables available include minimum temperature, maximum temperature, and precipitation. These downscaling outputs are based on Global Climate Model (GCM) projections from the Coupled Model Intercomparison Project Phase 5 (CMIP5) and historical daily gridded climate data for Canada.​​ Statistical properties and spatial patterns of the downscaled scenarios are based on this gridded observational dataset, which represents one approximation of the actual historical climate. For each month the daily maximum temperatures were averaged. This map is the average of the monthly max. temp. maps for the years 1961-1990. Data came from multiple sources and had to be connected to each other. Some of the source datasets needed to be re-gridded to fit the common grid.

This collection contains three statistically downscaled time series (datasets) for the Red River Basin (South Central U.S.), and one dataset used as historical observations. In particular, three different Global Climate Models (MPI-ESM-LR, CCSM4 and MIROC5) were downscaled using three different quantile mapping methods (CDFt, EDQM and BCQM). We do not recommend the use of the BCQM method, as the CDFt method is considered an improvement of it. The datasets created using the BCQM method are published as a demonstration of the risks of using flawed methods. The Monthly Projected Maximum Temperature (TMAX) data sets are part of the downscaled global climate models created for the 2008 California climate change assessment. These files are made from daily data and are monthly mean values in degrees Celsius. TMAX is generated through a Bias Corrected Statistical Downscaling (BCSD) approach and are currently available for the cnrmcm3, gfdlcm21, ncarccsm3, and ncarpcm1 models under the A2 and B1 scenarios. The BCSD data cover 31.9375N to 43.9375N and 124.5625W to 113.0625W. The VIC grid is a 1/8th degree grid so this makes a "box" of 93 longitudes by 97 latitudes. The California Basin Characterization Model (CA-BCM 2014) dataset provides historical and projected climate and hydrologic surfaces for the region that encompasses the state of California and all the streams that flow into it (California hydrologic region ). The CA-BCM 2014 applies a monthly regional water-balance model to simulate hydrologic responses to climate at the spatial resolution of a 270-m grid. The model has been calibrated using a total of 159 relatively unimpaired watersheds for the California region. The TopoWx ('Topography Weather') dataset contains historical 30-arcsec resolution (~800-m) interpolations of daily minimum and maximum topoclimatic air temperature for the conterminous U.S. Using both DEM-based variables and MODIS land skin temperature as predictors of air temperature, interpolation procedures include moving window regression kriging and geographically weighted regression. To avoid artificial climate trends, all input station data are homogenized using the GHCN/USHCN Pairwise Homogenization Algorithm (http://www.ncdc.noaa.gov/oa/climate/research/ushcn/#phas).
