In situ quantification of spatial and temporal variability of hyporheic exchange in static and mobile gravel-bed rivers
Seepage meters modified for use in flowing water were used to directly measure rates of exchange between surface and subsurface water in a gravel- and cobble bed river in western Pennsylvania, USA (Allegheny River, Qmean = 190 m3/s) and a sand- and gravel-bed river in Colorado, USA (South Platte River, Qmean = 9·7 m3/s). Study reaches at the Allegheny River were located downstream from a dam. The bed was stable with moss, algae, and river grass present in many locations. Median seepage was + 0·28 m/d and seepage was highly variable among measurement locations. Upward and downward seepage greatly exceeded the median seepage rate, ranging from + 2·26 (upward) to − 3·76 (downward) m/d. At the South Platte River site,...
Supplemental Data for Groundwater Contributions to Excessive Algal Growth in the East Fork Carson River, Carson Valley, West-Central Nevada, 2010 and 2012
This data release contains two tabular data sets of water-quality data collected on the East Fork Carson River. EFCR_CQW.xlsx is a Microsoft Excel workbook containing continuous water-quality data collected by the Nevada Division of Environmental Protection (NDEP) at a site on the East Fork Carson River over two time periods in 2010 and 2012. Data were collected at U.S. Geological Survey site number 385755119473704, East Fork Carson River near Muller Lane downstream transect, also referred to as "SDT" in the larger work. Stream temperature, pH, dissolved oxygen, and specific conductance were measured at 5 to 10 minute intervals from August 3-September 29, 2010 and from July 20-August 17, 2012. EFCR_StreamProfiles.xlsx...
Hydrogeological investigation of Chappice Lake, southeastern Alberta: Groundwater inputs to a saline basin
Incorporation of constraints on hydraulic head gradients near no-flow boundary conditions in the determination of spatial drift and their use in an inverse groundwater flow model
Geohydrologic of the Mesilla ground-water basin, Dona Ana County, New Mexico, and El Paso County, Texas
This Data release includes time series data collected at Operable Unit 1, Naval Base Kitsap, Keyport, WA and bounding surface water bodies over a 3 week period from 07/12/2018 to 08/08/2018. Groundwater altitudes in nineteen monitoring wells and surface water altitude and water quality parameters in five surface water bodies were monitored. Time series data were collected covered a period that included neap and spring tides. Field deployment details and quality assurance methods are included in Open-File Report 2018-####, “Groundwater Response to Tidal fluctuations, OU1, Naval Base Kitsap, Keyport, Washington”. Groundwater altitudes are referenced to the North American Vertical Datum 1988 (NAVD88). Groundwater horizontal...
Site-scale saturated zone flow model for Yucca Mountain: calibration of different conceptual models and their impact on flow paths
Groundwater and Tidal Time Series Data, Operable Unit 2, Area 8, Naval Base Kitsap, Keyport, Washington
This Data release includes time series data collected at Operable Unit 2, Area 8, at Naval Base Kitsap, Keyport, WA. Groundwater elevations and water quality parameters in five monitoring wells, along with tide levels in Port Orchard Bay, were monitored every 15 minutes during a 3-week duration. Time series data were collected from October 24, 2017, to November 16, 2017, a period that included neap and spring tides. Field deployment details and quality assurance methods are included in Open-File Report 2018-1082, “Analysis of Groundwater Response to Tidal fluctuations, Operable Unit 2, Area 8, Naval Base Kitsap, Keyport, Washington”. Tidal altitudes were adjusted by an estimated offset to be approximately comparable...
