This dataset is a compilation of forest insect, disease and abiotic damage mapped by aerial detection surveys on forested areas in the United States. At this time, the National Aerial Survey Data Standards require only mortality and defoliation data be collected and reported. However, many cooperators collect data on other types of damage and therefore, the national database has been designed to accommodate these data. Low-level flights, typically 1,000 to 2,000 feet above ground level, are used to map forest damage. Observers use paper maps, typically 1:100,000 scale USGS maps, upon which they record the damage. Three datasets are included: 1) survival of domesticated canaries and American crows following sub-cutaneous challenges ranging from 101 – 105 plaque forming units of West Nile virus. 2) Arbitrary units of WNV detected by RT-PCR or plaque forming units of WNV cultured in vero cells in 4 separate studies. Culture results are indicated for each day post WNV challenge. 3) Weight (mass) changes in grams in canaries and crows each day following WNV challenge. Day 0 (inoculation) set to 0 gms, then each subsequent day is change in gms from previous day.

Heavy and light mineral separates were extracted from the 36 collected field samples following a USGS procedure (Strong and Driscoll, 2016) and analyzed using the handheld portable X-ray fluorescence (pXRF) analyzer as part of a study examining the occurrence of chromium and natural and anthropogenic hexavalent Chromium, Cr(VI), in groundwater. Data will be used to estimate naturally-occurring background Cr(VI) concentrations upgradient, near the plume margins, and downgradient from a mapped Cr(VI) contamination plume near Hinkley, CA (Izbicki and Groover, 2016). This feature class includes monitoring data collected nationally to understand the status, condition, and trend of resources on BLM lands. Data are collected in accordance with the Interpreting Indicators for Rangeland Health (IIRH) method. The IIRH method is a qualitative assessment of rangeland health, defined as "the degree to which the integrity of the soil, vegetation, water, and air, as well as the ecological processes of the rangeland ecosystem are balanced and sustained." This data represents areas of forest damage due to insect infestation, fire, flood, landslides, and windthrow. The information was collected, cooperatively by aerial surveys by both the USFS, Forest Health Protection (FHP) and ADNR, Div. of Forestry. Surveys are conducted primarily in July and August so that pest "signatures" may be identified during the optimal period for symptom development of ocular estimation. The aerial survey is coordinated such that the maximum extent of recent bark beetle damage (fading trees) and insect defoliation (discoloration, foliage loss) patterns may be determined. 2010 USDA Forest Service, Rocky Mountain Region Aerial Detection Survey Data. This data depicts the occurrence and location of forest insect, disease, and other biotic and abiotic causes of tree mortality and tree damage. Aerial survey data is collected by observing areas of tree damage or tree mortality from an aircraft and manually recording the information onto a map. Due to the nature of aerial surveys, this data will only provide rough estimates of location, intensity and the resulting trend information for agents detectable from the air. The dietary contribution is measured as calcium, omega-3 long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acids docosahexaenoic acid and eicosapentaenoic acid (hereafter referred as DHA+EPA), iron, protein, vitamin B12, and zinc supply. This data release documents chemical analyses of environmental samples collected by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) in Lakeport (Lake County, California) during July 11-12, 2022. Environmental samples were collected at selected sites to assess the effects of lead-based paint on soil chemistry. This dataset provides a watershed index of surface drinking water importance, a watershed index of forest importance to surface drinking water, and a watershed index to highlight the extent to which development, fire, and insects and disease threaten forests important for surface drinking water. Grain size analysis using an Advantech Sonic Sifter Separator was conducted as part of a study examining the occurrence of chromium and natural and anthropogenic hexavalent Chromium, Cr(VI) in groundwater. Data will be used to estimate naturally-occurring background Cr(VI) concentrations upgradient, near the plume margins, and downgradient from a mapped Cr(VI) contamination plume near Hinkley, CA (Izbicki and Groover, 2016).
