The Critical Minerals in Archived Mine Samples Database (CMDB) contains chemistry and geologic information for historic ore and ore-related rock samples from mineral deposits in the United States. In addition, the database contains samples from archetypal deposits from 27 other countries in North America, South America, Asia, Africa and Europe. Samples were obtained from archived ore collections under the U.S. Geological Survey's project titled "Quick Assessment of Rare and Critical Metals in Ore Deposits: A National Assessment" (2008 to 2013) in an effort to begin an assessment of the Nations' previously mined ore deposits for critical minerals. Mineralized and altered rock samples were provided by the Colorado...

It is part of a national network of public-private partnerships — known as Landscape Conservation Cooperatives (LCCs, http://www.fws.gov/science/shc/lcc.html) — that work collaboratively across jurisdictions and political boundaries to leverage resources and share science capacity. The Great Plains LCC identifies science priorities for the region and helps foster science that addresses these priorities to support...
In December of 2018, the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) signed a Technical Assistance Agreement with a third party to reanalyze 2,324 archived sample splits collected as part of the National Uranium Resource Evaluation (NURE) Hydrogeochemical and Stream Sediment Reconnaissance (HSSR) project from selected areas in Idaho and Montana. A small amount (approximately 0.25 grams [g]) of sieved <75-micron sample material was retrieved from the USGS National Geochemical Sample Archive for geochemical analysis. These samples were analyzed for 48 elements by ALS Global laboratories using their ultra-trace four-acid-digestion dual-mode inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICPMS) (ALS ME-MS61L) method (Ag, Al, As, Ba,...

Drilling-density cell maps show the number of wells that have been drilled into the storage assessment unit (SAU). Each 1-square-mile cell has a count for the number of unique well boreholes drilled into the SAU. For a given sedimentary basin, the USGS National Geologic CO2 Sequestration Assessment Project identifies SAUs containing the potential for storage and sequestration of carbon dioxide. Proprietary well header data from IHS ENERDEQ through 2010 were queried to determine which wells were drilled into specific SAUs. The coordinates of wells are proprietary and cannot be released; however, counts of the number of wells per square mile are presented in the well drilling density data layer.

This dataset has many data layers. They each represent the potential habitat for an individual species in Florida. These species habitats modeled in this dataset belong to species that have been designated to have conservation need. Potential habitat includes areas that have been occupied by the species and areas where occupancy is unknown based on available occurrence records. In 1994, researchers in the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission completed a project, entitled Closing The Gaps in Florida's Wildlife Habitat Conservation System (Cox et al 1994), assessing the security of rare and imperiled species on existing conservation lands in Florida. These biologists used a variety of species occurrence...

7 aerial photographs were taken along the Little Missouri River in 1949. All images were geo-referenced to the 1995 digital orthophoto quarter quadrangles as described by Miller and Friedman (2009). Both the flood plain and active channel of the river were delineated on the 1995 digital orthophoto quadrangles and overlaid on rectified photos. ArcGIS was used to draw the polygons that delineate the flood plain and active channel; the delineation was saved as a SHP file. The separate images (geoTIFFs) can be viewed as a composite along with that year's channel delineation (SHP file) using a geographic information system (GIS) application. Central Asia, site of the historic Silk Road trade network, has long been a conduit for the movement of people, energy, and mineral resources between Europe and Asia. Once part of the former Soviet Union, this region was and continues to be an important producer of base and precious metals, rare metals (RM), including niobium, tantalum, and beryllium, and a past producer of rare earth elements (REE). The Tien Shan and Pamir Mountains regions, encompassing parts of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, and Turkmenistan, are of significant interest for mineral exploration as these regions are thought to host substantial undeveloped and undiscovered resources of REE and RM. Based on this legacy, and as an...

A rich legacy of geochemical data produced since the early 1960s covers the great expanse of Alaska; careful treatment of such data may provide significant and revealing geochemical maps that may be used for landscape geochemistry, mineral resource exploration, and geoenvironmental investigations over large areas. To maximize the spatial density and extent of data coverage for statewide mapping of element distributions, we compiled and integrated analyses of more than 175,000 sediment and soil samples from three major, separate sources: the U.S. Geological Survey, the National Uranium Resource Evaluation program, and the Alaska Division of Geological & Geophysical Surveys geochemical databases. Various types of...

A map of boreal vegetation for the Alaska-Yukon region was developed to contribute to the circumboreal vegetation mapping (CBVM) project. The effort included developing a map of bioclimates with 12 bioclimate zones, a map of biogeographic provinces with Alaska-Yukon and Aleutian provinces, and a map of geographic sectors with six sectors that provided the basis for classification of boreal vegetation. Vegetation mapping was done at 1:7.5 million scale using the mapping protocols of the CBVM team. Mapping used MODIS imagery as the basis for manual image interpretation and an integrated-terrain-unit approach, which included classifications for bioclimate, physiography, generalized geology, permafrost, disturbance,...

Zircon (ZrSiO4) and cassiterite (SnO2) samples were collected by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) from the Yazov Granite, Transbaikalia region, Eastern Siberia, Russia. Samples (in the form of mounted loose grains) were prepared and analyzed for direct age dating on a laser ablation inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometer (LA–ICPMS) system at the USGS in Denver, Colorado from February 2017 to June 2019. The data indicate that high tin concentrations in the Yazov Granite are caused by inheritance of older cassiterite crystals and may imply that these granites cannot be genetically related to primary tin ore deposits of the region. These results have broad implications in understanding how critical elements,...
