Fault features within the South Pass City, Wyoming 1:24,000 quadrangle. It is a digitized version of preliminary bedrock geology map series developed by the Wyoming Geological Survey. The information provides basic bedrock geologic information and features to include named and geologic map units based on the rock types present. STATEMAP product. This dataset is available for purchase through the WSGS, Digital Product MS-74. http://sales.wsgs.uwyo.edu/catalog/index.php

This cover contains faults in the unconformity at the Cambrian-Precambrianboundary. These data were contributed byGlenn Bear of Indiana University as part of the work onhis doctoral thesis. The southern part of the map was produced byJames Drahovzal of the Kentucky Geological Survey and merged withBear's map of the rest of the map area and beyond.Public and proprietary seismic reflection and welldata were used to define the basement structure.A prominent east-west structure in the southern half of the maparea is the western end of the Rough Creek Graben. At its deepestpoint the unconformity is more than 30,000 ft(9,100 m) below sea level. Faulted strata at this depth mean thatthe Rough Creek Fault System penetrates...

Staff from Alaska Earthquake Center, Geophysical Institute and Alaska Division of Geological & Geophysical Surveys evaluated potential tsunami hazards for the city of Sand Point, on Popof Island in the Shumagin Islands archipelago. We numerically modeled the extent of inundation from tsunami waves generated by local and distant earthquake sources. We considered the results in light of historical observations. The worst-case scenarios are defined by analyzing results of the sensitivity study of the tsunami dynamics with respect to different slip distributions along the Aleutian megathrust. For the Sand Point area, the worst-case scenarios are thought to be thrust earthquakes in the Shumagin Islands region with magnitudes...

The purpose of this study is to evaluate tsunami hazard for the community of Seward and northern Resurrection Bay area, Alaska. This report will provide guidance to local emergency managers in tsunami hazard assessment. We used a numerical modeling method to estimate the extent of inundation by tsunami waves generated from earthquake and landslide sources. Our tsunami scenarios included a repeat of the tsunami of the 1964 Great Alaska Earthquake, as well as tsunami waves generated by two hypothetical Yakataga Gap earthquakes in northeastern Gulf of Alaska, hypothetical earthquakes in Prince William Sound and Kodiak asperities of the 1964 rupture, and local underwater landslides in Resurrection Bay. Results of numerical...

This dataset contains information and locations on faults and associated folds in Alaska that are believed to be sources of M>6 earthquakes during the Quaternary (the past 1,600,000 years). The dataset is intended to part of the USGS archive for historic and ancient earthquake sources used in current and future probabilistic seismic-hazard analyses. This dataset presents a single source that summarizes important information on paleoseismic (ancient earthquakes) parameters including, age of most recent deformation, slip rate, slip sense dip direction, and accuracy of original mapping. These data are compiled from hundreds of journal articles, maps, theses, and other documents, as referenced herein. The geospatial...

This data set contains boundaries and tags for major geologic units in Alaska, Hawaii, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. In addition to the polygons representing the areal extent of geologic units, it identifies major faults and continental glaciation in Alaska. The data depict the geology of the bedrock that lies at or near the land surface, but not the distribution of surficial materials such as soils, alluvium, and glacial deposits. This map complements the Generalized Geologic Map of the Conterminous United States by Reed and Bush. The data are generalized from a compilation prepared for use in the Geologic Map of North America, published as a paper map by the Geological Society of America and...

This publication updates previous fault maps of Oregon as a contribution to the larger U.S. Geological Survey effort to produce digital maps of active faults in the Pacific Northwest region. The new map is derived from the 1992 fault map of Pezzopane, Nakata, and Weldon that has seen wide distribution and has been reproduced in essentially all subsequent compilations of active faults of Oregon. This publication provides a substantial update of known active or suspected active faults east of the Cascades. Improvements in the new map include (1) many newly recognized active faults, (2) a linked ArcInfo map and reference database, (3) more precise locations for previously recognized faults on shaded relief quadrangles...

This digital map database, compiled from previously published andunpublished data, and new mapping by the authors, represents thegeneral distribution of bedrock and surficial deposits in themapped area. Together with the accompanying text file (ceghmf.ps,ceghmf.pdf, ceghmf.txt), it provides current information on thegeologic structure and stratigraphy of the area covered. Thedatabase delineates map units that are identified by general ageand lithology following the stratigraphic nomenclature of the U.S.Geological Survey. The scale of the source maps limits the spatialresolution (scale) of the database to 1:100,000 or smaller.

A key input for probabilistic seismic hazard analysis (PSHA) is geologic slip rate data. Yet, no single database exists to house all geologic slip rate data used in these calculations. Here, we compile all geologic slip rates that are reportedly used in U.S. National Seismic Hazard Map (NSHM) releases from 1996, 2002, 2007, 2008, and 2014. Although a new NSHM was released in 2018, no changes were made in geologic slip rate data used. The geologic slip rates are collated from existing NSHM reports and documentation, and no new data are reported herein. The geologic slip rates are coupled with the most up-to-date fault geometries utilized for NSHM calculations, and the data are presented spatially as a shapefile (SHP)...

This DGGS Raw Data File presents 40Ar/39Ar age dating results for selected igneous rocks encountered in the Styx River area of the western Alaska Range. Crystallization ages on biotite and hornblende from plutonic rocks range from about ~60 to ~63 Ma, while a sericite alteration age in plutonic rocks altered by a dike swarm also is around ~63 Ma. Sericite alteration associated with a copper-molybdenum porphyry ranges from ~10 to ~11 Ma. Analyses were performed by the University of Alaska Fairbanks Geochronology Laboratory, and results were reported by Paul Layer and Jeff Benowitz. This data release includes the following products: a summary of sample collection methods, the laboratory report, analytical data tables...
