This is a continuous raster dataset identifying wetland basins/rice fields that are priority for freshwater enhancement to increase the quantity and/or quality of mottled duck brood rearing wetlandsin the Western Gulf Coast. The identification process is based on key biological parameters such as patch size, land use type, distance to brood rearing habitat, etc. Additionally, this raster datasets presents the data in a form that prioritizes habitat from more suitable to less suitable based on landscape metrics. The scale ranges from 1.99to .02, higher value designating higher priority for enhancement.
The U.S. continues efforts to develop genetically superior short-rotation woody crops (hybrid poplar and willow) and herbaceous crops (switchgrass). These biomass crops can provide multiple environmental benefits as well as energy and fiber. This paper focuses on results of site-specific studies that are quantifying the environmental potential and ramifications of converting agricultural croplands to biomass crop production. At research-scales, no differences have been found in erosion and movement of nutrients from annual row crops, switchgrass, and tree crops with and without a cover crop in the initial year of establishment. Research- and watershed-scale studies on different soil types, in different regions,...

NatureServe Greater Sage Grouse Assessments This map shows current and near-term status data for greater sage grouse. Southwest REGAP also provided several geographic ranges by HUC. Great sage grouse ranges for the U.S. are included. Greater sage grouse leks (related to NatureServe's ecological scorecard) are also provided. The input data used for associated analysis is included, as well as all dependent datasets. These data are provided by Bureau of Land Management (BLM) "as is" and may contain errors or omissions. The User assumes the entire risk associated with its use of these data and bears all responsibility in determining whether these data are fit for the User's intended use. These data may not have the...

In the context of impact assessment (IA), ‘enhancement’ refers to deliberate attempts taken in the design and subsequent phases of projects, programmes, plans and policies to ensure the success of a wider range of direct and indirect positive outcomes to communities and/or the biophysical environment. This can be in the form of opportunities for social and community development, improved health and wellbeing, improved biodiversity, restored ecosystems and landscape character, and protected and respected cultural heritage. This first ever special issue on enhancement advocates that all forms of IA should consider opportunities for enhancement. Specific reference is made to strategic environmental assessment (SEA),...
This paper draws on social impact assessment (SIA) and benefit-sharing literature as well as practical SIA project experience in more than 18 different countries. It suggests four practical steps to promote the implementation of enhancement measures in projects: (1) early consideration of positive impacts, benefits and beneficiaries; (2) meaningful consultation and empowerment of beneficiaries; (3) including benefit enhancement measures in project finance agreements; and (4) independent monitoring of project benefits. The paper proposes that enhancement measures should be culturally appropriate, relevant to the project objectives and activities, cost effective, and contribute to the project being a good corporate...
