A generalized least squares (GLS) technique was used with at-site n-day low-flow time series and frequencies, from SWToolbox (Kiang and others, 2018), and 14 basin characteristics (basin perimeter, drainage area, maximum basin elevation, mean total annual reference evapotranspiration, groundwater head, length of longest flow path, minimum basin elevation, runoff-curve number, relief, ruggedness, slope ratio, percentage of hydrologic soil type B, available water capacity, and total length of streams in a basin) for 28 selected streamflow gaging stations in Puerto Rico to calculate regional n-day low-flow frequency regression equations for ungaged stream locations. The GLS approach assigns weights based on uncertainty...
This data release includes time-series data from a monitoring site located in a small (0.12 km2) drainage basin in the Las Lomas watershed in Los Angeles County, CA, USA. The site was established after the 2016 Fish Fire and recorded a series debris flows in the first winter after the fire. The station is located along the channel at the outlet of the study area (34 9’18.50”N, 117 56’41.33”W, WGS84). The data were collected between November 15, 2016 and February 23, 2017. The data include two types of time series: (1) continuous 1-minute time series of rainfall and flow stage recorded by a laser distance meter suspended over the channel (LasLomasContinuous.csv), and (2) 50-Hz time series of flow stage and flow-induced...

An ordinary least squares (OLS) technique was used with at-site flow-duration exceedance probabilities, from SWToolbox (Kiang and others, 2018), and 14 basin characteristics (basin perimeter, drainage area, maximum basin elevation, mean total annual reference evapotranspiration, groundwater head, length of longest flow path, minimum basin elevation, runoff-curve number, relief, ruggedness, slope ratio, percentage of hydrologic soil type B, available water capacity, and total length of streams in a basin) for 28 selected streamflow gaging stations in Puerto Rico to calculate regional flow-duration regression equations for ungaged stream locations. The final flow-duration regression equations were developed in R (R...
Drainage basin areas for 376 USGS streamgages in West Virginia and adjacent states were delineated digitally. The USGS Watershed Boundary Dataset HUC12 sub-watershed lines were used as outer limits of basins, and heads-up digitizing was used to delineate boundaries from the stream gage to the HUC12 boundary. The USGS National Map was used, as background, to show both contour lines and digital elevation to highlight drainage basin divides, ridges, and valleys. Basins were delineated for (1) all active continuous-flow and crest-stage streamgages, in West Virginia, through water year 2020, (2) selected inactive streamgages, in West Virginia and adjacent states, that were used in the flood-frequency report prepared...

This data release includes time-series data from two monitoring stations in a small drainage basin burned in the 2014 Silverado Fire, Orange County, California. One station (upper station) is located in the headwaters of the study area (33 45’39.10”N, 117 35’17.48”W, WGS84). The other station (lower station) is located at the outlet of the study area (33 45’04.61”N, 117 35’12.54”W). The data were collected between November 15, 2014 and January 14, 2016. The data include continuous 1-minute time series of rainfall and soil water content recorded at the both stations and intermittent (during rain storms) 50-Hz time series of flow-induced ground vibrations recorded by geophones at the lower station. The soil water...

In 2013, the Regional Stream Quality Assessment (RSQA) study was started as part of the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) National Water Quality Assessment (NAWQA) project. One of the objectives of the RSQA is to characterize the relationships between water-quality stressors and stream ecology and subsequently determine the relative effects of these stressors on aquatic biota within the streams (Garrett and others, 2017; Journey and others, 2015; Coles and others, 2019; Sheibley and others, 2017; May and others, 2020). The study was implemented in five regions across the United States (U.S.); the Midwest (MSQA) in 2013, the Southeast (SESQA) in 2014, the Pacific Northwest (PNSQA) in 2015, the Northeast (NESQA) in 2016,...
Generalized least squares (GLS) techniques were used with at-site statistics, from PeakFQ, and drainage area for streamgages in Puerto Rico to calculate regional regression equations for ungaged locations. The GLS approach assigns weights based on uncertainty of the observations (ie. record length and variance) and accounts for correlated streamflows and time-sampling errors (Farmer and others, 2019). Two separate regions were defined for the use of these equations to minimize residuals, and performance metrics from WREG were analyzed to determine drainage area as the only explanatory variable provided the best results. Values for the correlation smoothing function in region 1 were alpha equal to 0.006 and theta...
