This is a coverage of the Colorado Plateau coal assessment study area. The study area outline was drawn on the county lines that most closely outline the coal-bearing rocks in the Colorado Plateau Region. The county outlines originate from a national coverage for which lines were extracted from U.S. Census 1990 TIGER/line files using an AML program written by Nebert, D., and Negri, M., USGS-Water Resources Division (WRD), running on two Data General 6220 servers.

The NPMS Public Map Viewer enables the user to view National Pipeline Mapping System (NPMS) data one county at a time. NPMS data consists of gas transmission pipelines and hazardous liquid trunklines. It does not contain gathering or distribution pipelines, such as lines which deliver gas to a customer's home. Therefore, not all pipelines in an area will be visible in the Public Map Viewer. To view the data, select a state and then a county from the drop-down lists. To view another county, close the Public Viewer window, return to the home page of the NPMS website and click the NPMS Public Map Viewer button again. The user may zoom in to a map scale of 1:24,000. Data cannot be downloaded from the Public Viewer.

In late 1996, the Dept of Conservation (DOC) surveyed state and federal agencies about the county boundary coverage they used. As a result, DOC adopted the 1:24,000 (24K) scale U.S. Bureau of Reclamation (USBR) dataset (USGS source) for their Farmland Mapping and Monitoring Program (FMMP) but with several modifications. Detailed documentation of these changes is provided by FMMP and included in the lineage section of the metadata. A dataset named cnty24k97_1 was made available (approximately 2004) through the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection - Fire and Resource Assessment Program (CDF - FRAP) and the California Spatial Information Library (CaSIL).In late 2006, the Department of Fish and Game...

This is a coverage that shows areas in the Kaiparowits Plateau where geologic conditions in the Calico and A-sequences are more favorable for current underground mining technology (Hettinger and other, chap. T). This coverage contains numerous attributes of information. It was compiled by computing the geometric intersection of nine polygon coverages using the ARC/INFO UNION command. This coverage is characterized as being a GUIDE TO WHERE THE MORE FAVORABLE COAL AREAS ARE LIKELY TO BE for current underground mining technology: areas where coal beds in the Calico and A-sequences are greater than 3.5 feet thick, less than 3,000 feet deep, and inclined by less than 12 degrees, as described in Hettinger and others,...
