OBIS-USA brings together marine biological occurrence data – recorded observations of identifiable marine species at a known time and place, collected primarily from U.S. Waters or with U.S. funding. Coordinated by the Science Analytics and Synthesis (SAS) Program of the United States Geological Survey (USGS), OBIS-USA, strives to meet national data integration and dissemination needs for marine data about organisms and ecosystems. OBIS-USA is part of an international data sharing network (Ocean Biodiversity Information System, OBIS) coordinated by the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission, of UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Science and Cultural Organization) International Oceanographic Data and Information...

Ecosystem metabolism is a measure of energy flow in terrestrial and aquatic environments that quantifies a balance between the rate of biomass production by photosynthesizing plants and the rate of biomass oxidation by respiring plants and animals to maintain and build living biomass. It is therefore a fundamental measure of ecosystem function that quantifies the balance between the rate of production, maintenance, and decay of organic matter. It also provides an understanding of energy flow to higher trophic levels that supports food webs with secondary and tertiary productivity. Furthermore, metabolism helps explain when aquatic ecosystems undergo out-of-balance behaviors such as hypoxia. Recent advances in sensor...

Plant and soil data were collected in experimental plots in two sites ("Terrace" and "Hilltop") at Wind Cave National Park, South Dakota, and one site ("BSV") at Badlands National Park, South Dakota. At each site, 70, 2.5 x 2.5 m plots were assigned randomly to nitrogen-alone or nitrogen+water addition treatments (or no treatment for the control). Treatments were applied and data collected 2010-2013. The dataset includes six tables: (1) experimental treatments by plot and year; (2) plant and soil metrics analyzed in the larger work; (3) plant tissue and soil total carbon and nitrogen raw data; (4) plant biomass raw data; (5) canopy and ground cover raw data; and (6) canopy and ground cover codes.

This dataset contains modeled daily lake area, volume, constituent mass, and biogeochemical rates for 3,692 lakes in the Northern Highlands Lake District (NHLD) for one retrospective model run (1986-2010) and 12 model runs under future climate scenarios. This dataset was created using published tools developed to simulate detailed hydrological and biogeochemical fluxes for thousands of lakes and reservoirs over large spatiotemporal scales. The lake hydrology model utilized a computationally-efficient integrated surface water and groundwater modeling framework that informed a lake water budget model incorporating daily hydrologic inputs and exports from individual lakes within the modeling domain. The lake biogeochemical...
