This dataset represents freshwater streams on the Chugach National Forest, Alaska. Streams were digitized from 1:31,380 orthophoto quads. Estuarine channel types may extend beyond shoreline. Selected stream arcs on Cordova Ranger District updated October and November 2002. Presence of fish species and stream class were updated.

The Arizona Game and Fish Department (AGFD) recognizes the need for a strong data foundation to inform science-based decisions for fisheries management at a watershed level. In preparation for a shift towards comprehensive watershed-scale planning, AGFD is developing a fisheries data management system with an initial focus on compiling and formatting several hundred thousand fish survey and stocking records. In 1991, the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) began a study of more than 50 major river basins across the Nation as part of the National Water-Quality Assessment (NAWQA) project of the National Water-Quality Program. One of the major goals of the NAWQA project is to determine how water-quality and ecological conditions change over time. To support that goal, long-term consistent and comparable ecological monitoring has been conducted on streams and rivers throughout the Nation. FY2015Collaborators are investigating the effect of low rise dams water supply, ecosystem functions and health, and habitat for a wide range of organisms, including sage grouse. They are assessing the economic cost and attitudes of ranchers and managers towards both low-rise dams and proposed re-introductions of beavers. Remote sensing is used to identify locations of incised streams across the Great Basin.
FY2016This project will develop a strategic approach for conservation of wet meadows and riparian ecosystems and the species they support that focuses on threats caused by natural and anthropogenic disturbance. It uses information on (1) the factors that affect wet meadow and riparian ecosystem resilience to both natural and human-caused disturbances at the scale of the watershed and meadow or riparian ecosystem, and (2) the distributions and population abundances of at risk species to determine focal areas for management. Non major roads on the Gifford Pinchot National Forest identified in the GPNF's roads analysis were selected as priorities for decommissioning to improve aquatic ecosystems. The roads analysis assessed several factors including surface erosion risk, mass wasting risk, riparian reserve impacts, channel process impacts due to stream crossings, stream flow impacts, and fish passage impacts.
