THLizardOverallRange is an ESRI SDE Feature Class showing those areas known to be utilized by texas horned lizard in Colorado. This information was derived from field personnel. A variety of data capture techniques were used including drawing on mylar overlays at 1:50,000 scale USGS county mapsheets and implementation of the SmartBoard Interactive Whiteboard using stand-up, real-time digitizing at various scales (Cowardin, M., M. Flenner. March 2003. Maximizing Mapping Resources. GeoWorld 16(3):32-35).Dataset was acquired from a third party distributor who obtained it from CDOW in January 2011. The authoritative data source is available on ArcGIS.com (http://www.arcgis.com/home/item.html?id=0bc44a3108d743c194f1ea4beac97d08)...

GrSageGrouseProductionArea is an ESRI SDE Feature Class showing those areas that would include the majority of important sage grouse nesting habitat. Mapped as a buffer zone of 4 miles around Active lek points from GrSageGrouseLeks and clipped to GrSageGrouseOverallRange. Prescribed burns to restore aspen habitat on one of the most important elk calving areas for Afton herd and important for aspen-dependent species, transition and winter range for elk, mule deer, and moose east of Alpine, transition and winter range for mule deer and elk of crucial winter range just east of Smoot, and sagebrush, aspen, meadow, and willow habitat on transition range for mule deer and elk 30 miles up the Greys River. In addition, determine 1) locations and distribution of aspen stands on the district that are in need of treatment and 2) prioritize stands relative to level of risk, this information to be used in formulating an aspen treatment schedule. (This assessment would be consistent with methodology...

This project will provide for deer crossing the Baggs highway (789) to reduce vehicle collisions. Construction of 3-4 miles of deer proof fence to funnel a portion of a migrating deer herd to existing culvert under HWY 789 to reduce deer vehicle collissions. Installation of 6 cattleguards in current access points to prevent deer access through fences at these points. Further, the project would cover several years and work toward providing safe wildlife passage. Industry and WDOT are being approached to partner with the WGFD on this project. Providing deer crossings of HWY 789 will reduce the incidences of vehicle and deer collisions, reducing deer mortality and damage to vehicles. The project would be done in a...

This dataset represents a species distribution model for least tern (Sternula antillarum) on New Jersey’s Atlantic coast and was created as part of the Protection of Critical Beach Habitat project. In addition to least tern, this project includes species distribution models for piping plover (Charadrius melodus), least tern (Sternula antillarum), and American oystercatcher (Haematopus palliatus). All species models can be found in the Data Basin gallery Protection of Critical Beach-nesting Bird Habitats in the Wake of Severe Coastal Storms.Species distribution modeling was conducted to examine the influence of landscape scale variables and beach management strategies on bird breeding habitat suitability. The probability...
The Hawaiian Islands are home to a variety of native species that have been subject to numerous threats including development of habitat for human use, predation by introduced herbivores, and competition with invasive plant species. In addition to these threats global climate change is expected to increase temperature and alter patterns of precipitation in Hawaii. This project models the relative vulnerability of native plant species to the effects of climate change, in order to assist resource managers in effectively allocating limited resources to efficiently preserve and protect current and future habitat for native plants. We modeled vulnerability by creating an expert system – a network model linking biological...

This layer represents 5-year relative counts of wildlife carcasses collected by Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) maintenance personnel or U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service Grizzly Bear Recovery Team personnel on or adjacent to on-system (major) routes from 2008 to 2012. To obtain relative counts, the 5-year total counts per mile, which included all wildlife species observed, were divided by the maximum observed calue (98) to give a relative 0-1 risk score. Total counts, which include all wildlife species observed, along with carnivore counts, which include only black bears, grizzly bears, mountain lions, and wolves, are provided. Counts were derived by identifying the nearest mile marker to each carcass point...

The SRLCC provided funds to the states of Arizona and New Mexico to support development of the states Crucial Habitat Assessment Tools (CHATs) which provide a decision support system to better incorporate wildlife values, sensitive animals and plants, and important ecosystem features into land use decision-making to reduce conflicts and surprises.Several states have released wildlife mapping tools that are the foundation for displaying crucial wildlife and corridor information. The state and regional CHATs are non-regulatory, and give project planners and the general public access to credible scientific data on a broad scale for use in project analysis, siting and planning. This includes large-scale development...

PtarmiganOverallRange is an ESRI SDE Feature Class showing Overall Range for White-Tailed Ptarmigan (Lagopus leucurus) in Colorado. Overall Range is defined as the probable range of White-tailed Ptarmigan in Colorado as determined from the following criteria: Areas greater than 10,800 feet in elevation; Colorado GAP vegetation types Mixed Tundra, Meadow Tundra, Prostrate Shrub Tundra, Bare Ground Tundra, Exposed Rock, Shrub Dominated Wetland/Riparian, and Graminoid/Forb Dominated Wetland. This information was derived from field personnel. The Forest and Rangeland Ecosystem Science Center 's mission is to provide scientific understanding and the technology needed to support sound management and conservation of our nation's natural resources, with emphasis on western ecosystems. The scientists from FRESC capitalize on their diverse expertise to answer critically important scientific questions shaped by the equally diverse environments of the western United States. FRESC scientists collaborate with each other and with partners to provide rigorous, objective, and timely information and guidance for the management and conservation of biological systems in the West and worldwide. Research activities are concentrated in Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Nevada,...

This dataset was last updated February 2017. This version incorporates a revised version of the land cover classification, Terrestrial and Aquatic Habitat Map (DSLland), Version 3.1 developed by the University of Massachusetts, which included the addition of The Nature Conservancy’s Northeast lakes and ponds classification. The Red-shouldered Hawk (Buteo lineatus) is a medium-sized raptor that feeds on small mammals, frogs, snakes, and other small prey. It has been chosen to represent the habitat needs of other species of wildlife that also use mature forest, especially in floodplains or with wetlands, including species with relatively large home ranges. This dataset depicts the potential capability of the landscape...
