Wind energy offers the potential to reduce carbon emissions while increasing energy independence and bolstering economic development. However, wind energy has a larger land footprint per Gigawatt (GW) than most other forms of energy production, making appropriate siting and mitigation particularly important. Species that require large unfragmented habitats and those known to avoid vertical structures are particularly at risk from wind development. Developing energy on disturbed lands rather than placing new developments within large and intact habitats would reduce cumulative impacts to wildlife. These data depict the National Hydrography Dataset Plus Version 2.1 (NHDPlusV2.1) flowline representation of the National Wild and Scenic Rivers System throughout the conterminous United States as of 2018. U.S. Forest Service geospatial data on National Wild and Scenic River segments (USFS WSR Segment) from 3/1/2016 were joined to the NHDPlusV2.1 to create the Wild and Scenic Rivers 2018 Linked to the NHDPlusV2.1 (wsr_nhdpv2.1) data. Dataset for BLM Wild Horse and Burro Herd Areas & Herd Management Areas. Herd Areas were designated in 1971 as places where wild horses and/or burros were found during the initial flights in 1971. Federal lands identified in 1971 but not managed for wild horses and burros are called Herd Areas. As additional surveys were done and data gathered, it was determined that some of these lands and animals were actually on private lands and/or were private animals. Areas with private animals that were 'claimed' during the claiming period were not carried forward as Herd Areas. The Wild Areas of the Northern Appalachian/Acadian ecoregion are those areas with a Human Footprint score equal to or less that 10 (HF <= 10). These are the 10% wildest, or least human influenced places in the ecoregion. Originally developed by the USGS National Atlas for the 2000 publication of the National Wild and Scenic River System (NWSRS). These Alaska data accompany the CONUS National Wild and Scenic River System data.
A polygon feature class representing the spatial extent and boundaries for BLM Wild Horse and Burro Herd Management Areas (HMAs) and Herd Areas (HAs), along with USFS Wild Horse and Burro Territories (WHBTs). HMAs and WHBTs are color coded to represent whether they are within Appropriate Management Level (AML), Greater than 100% and less than 200% of AML, and greater than 200% of AML. HAs do not have associated AML values, and are colored grey.

This polyline feature class depicts the classification of each wild and scenic river segment designated by Congress and the Secretary of the Interior for the United States and Puerto Rico. This layer was created by a multi-agency effort including the US Forest Service, National Park Service, Bureau of Land Management and the Fish and Wildlife Service.
