Aim Assessing the influence of land cover in species distribution modelling is limited by the availability of fine-resolution land-cover data appropriate for most species responses. Remote-sensing technology offers great potential for predicting species distributions at large scales, but the cost and required expertise are prohibitive for many applications. We test the usefulness of freely available raw remote-sensing reflectance data in predicting species distributions of 40 commonly occurring bird species in western Oregon. Location Central Coast Range, Cascade and Klamath Mountains Oregon, USA. Methods Information on bird observations was collected from 4598 fixed-radius point counts. Reflectance data...

Raster representation of landslide probability for the Cascade physiographic province within the Western Oregon Plan Revision (WOPR) boundary.BLM: (Bureau of Land Management) WOPR: (Western Oregon Plan Revision) PRMP: (Proposed Resource Management Plan) DEM: Digital Elevation Model Physiographic Province: A region in which the landforms are similar in geologic structure and differ significantly from the landform patterns in adjacent regions.* Landslide Density: The relative probability of a landslide occurrence. *The boundaries used for the landslide density models are based on but do not match the Physiographic Province boundaries in WOPR. The landslide density model is based on 5th field watershed boundaries that...

The geographic distribution of stream reaches with potential to support high quality habitat for salmonids has bearing on the actual status of habitats and populations over broad spatial extents. As part of the Coastal Landscape Analysis and Modeling Study (CLAMS), we examined how salmon-habitat potential was distributed relative to current and future (+100 years) landscape characteristics in the Coastal Province of Oregon, USA. The intrinsic potential to provide high-quality rearing habitat was modeled for juvenile coho salmon (Oncorhynchus kisutch) and juvenile steelhead (O. mykiss) based on stream flow, valley constraint, and stream gradient. See Supplemental Information for additional detail. BLM: (Bureau of...

1:100K Distribution of Oregon Anadromous Salmon and Steelhead habitat obtained from ODFW for use in the Western Oregon Plan Revision (WOPR) Proposed Resource Management Plan (PRMP). These data describe areas of suitable habitat believed to be used (currently and historically) by wild, natural, and/or hatchery fish populations. The term "currently" is defined as within the past five reproductive cycles. See the 'USETYPE' field description to differentiate between current and historic distribution. This information is based on extensive surveys, the best professional judgment of ODFW staff biologists and where possible, the professional opinions of staff from other natural resource agencies. Due to natural variations...
