The Fluvial Egg Drift Simulator (FluEgg) estimates bighead, silver, and grass carp egg and larval drift in rivers using species-specific egg developmental data combined with user-supplied hydraulic inputs (Garcia and others, 2013; Domanski, 2020). This data release contains results from 240 FluEgg 4.1.0 simulations of bighead carp eggs in the Illinois River under steady flow conditions. The data release also contains the hydraulic inputs used in the FluEgg simulations and a KML file of the centerline that represents the model domain. FluEgg simulations were run for all combinations of four spawning locations, six water temperatures, and ten steady flow conditions. Each simulation included 5,000 bighead carp eggs,...

The USGS developed the second in a series of informative spatial distribution datasets of submersed aquatic vegetation (SAV) in the eastern basin of Lake Erie. The second dataset was developed by object-based image analysis of high-resolution imagery (US waters < 6 meters deep) collected during peak biomass in 2018 to allow assessments of changes in SAV distribution. Assessing SAV abundance may contribute to inform the long-term impacts of Grass Carp, Common Carp, eutrophication, wind fetch and sedimentation on vegetation communities throughout Lake Erie and the impact these stressors may have on other organisms in the ecosystem. These data may also help inform the deployment of toxic bait deployments targeting...
The data includes dates, places, and times of sampling events for eggs and larvae of invasive Grass Carp (Ctenopharyngodon idella) in tributaries to Lake Erie between 2015 and 2020. Reference data on locations and dates sampled, gears used, and effort are included. Developmental stages for a subset of undamaged, fertilized eggs are provided. Tables include common fields to allow for integration into a relational database to aid data extraction and associating data among tables.

The Fluvial Egg Drift Simulator (FluEgg) estimates bighead, silver, and grass carp egg and larval drift in rivers using species-specific egg developmental data combined with user-supplied hydraulic inputs (Garcia and others, 2013, Domanski, 2020). Hydraulic inputs for a series of FluEgg simulations were generated using a one-dimensional steady Hydrologic Engineering Center-River Analysis System (HEC-RAS) 5.0.7 model for the Illinois River between Marseilles Lock and Dam and the Mississippi River confluence near Grafton, Illinois (HEC-RAS, 2019). The HEC-RAS model was developed by combining four individual HEC-RAS models obtained from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Rock Island District (U.S. Army Corps of Engineers...

Bubble curtain systems, also called “bubblers,” are used in navigation locks to prevent the buildup of ice around the gates in the winter. It has been proposed that bubblers could potentially serve an additional purpose as a deterrent to the upstream movement of aquatic invasive species through locks. An interagency study involving the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, and the U.S. Geological Survey is aimed at assessing this potential (Asian Carp Regional Coordinating Committee, 2019). As part of this effort, on September 17 and 18, 2019, the U.S. Geological Survey measured water velocities around the bubble curtain system in Peoria Lock on the Illinois River. Peoria Lock has “sill...

The USGS developed the second in a series of informative spatial distribution datasets of submersed aquatic vegetation (SAV) in the western basin of Lake Erie. Assessing SAV abundance may contribute to inform the long-term impacts of Grass Carp, Common Carp, eutrophication, wind fetch and sedimentation on vegetation communities throughout Lake Erie and the impact these stressors may have on other organisms in the ecosystem. Acoustic telemetry data (Vemco, Inc) were collected on invasive silver carp (Hypophthalmichthys molitrix), bighead carp (H. nobilis) and their hybrids in the upper Mississippi River (navigation pools 15-19) to determine movement patterns and preferred habitats during September 2013 through November 2017. We consolidated these data into intervals of fish within-pool residency and intervals of fish transitions into adjacent navigation pools (i.e., dam passages). The combined data set was then parsed into an "upstream passage" data set (in which downstream passage intervals were censored) and and a "downstream passage" data set (in which upstream passage intervals were censored). We then examined the effects of river...
