Adequate knowledge on the movement of nutrients under various agricultural practices is essential for developing remedial measures to reduce nonpoint source pollution. Mathematical models, after extensive calibration and validation, are useful to derive such knowledge and to identify site-specific alternative agricultural management practices. A spatial-process model that uses GIS and ADAPT, a field scale daily time-step continuous water table management model, was calibrated and validated for flow and nitrate-N discharges from a 365 ha agricultural watershed in central Iowa, in the Midwestern United States. This watershed was monitored for nitrate-N losses from 1991 to 1997. Spatial patterns in crops, topography,...

The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), in cooperation with the Grand Valley Drainage District and the Colorado Water Conservation Board, conducted a loading analysis for selected constituents and tributaries to the Colorado River in the Grand Valley, western Colorado, using data from 1991 to 2018, to characterize concentrations, stream loading, and load reductions for Escherichia coli, total recoverable iron, and dissolved selenium for stream segments on the State of Colorado 303(d) list of impaired waters. Escherichia coli, total recoverable iron, and dissolved selenium concentrations and streamflow data were compiled from the Water Quality Portal (WQP). The data were submitted to the WQP by the USGS, Colorado Department...

Description of Work U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) scientists will conduct fish sampling in Indiana to determine the main causes of impairment of Pigeon Creek. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and Indiana State agencies will use the data to evaluate ways to improve water quality. Fish assemblage data is needed to develop total maximum daily loads and implementation plans for impaired AOCs and tributaries in the Basin. Development of the TMDLs will include determining the sources of the pollutant, calculating loading allocations to ensure the designated uses will be met, and developing an implementation plan to achieve these allocations. TMDLs will address several pollutants including nutrients, sediment and...

Description of Work U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) scientists will assess the hydrology, water quality, and response to simulated changes in phosphorus loading of the Winnebago Pool Lakes, Wisconsin. Total annual phosphorus and total suspended sediment loads will be estimated at various monitored locations throughout the Upper Fox and Wolf River Watershed using a rating curve method or GCLAS with streamflow monitored by the USGS and water quality data collected by the Wisconsin DNR. Monitoring at three new sites was done as part of this study. Data from these three sites will be used to help calibrate the SWAT model for the basin. These loads will be supplied to the Cadmus Group, Inc. to help calibrate SWAT models...

This data release has been superseded by version 2.0, available here: https://doi.org/10.5066/P9P6WI44 The U.S. Geological Survey, in cooperation with Grand Valley Drainage District, Colorado Water Conservation Board, Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment, and Colorado River Water Conservation District, conducted a loading analysis for selected constituents and tributaries in the Grand Valley, Colorado, to support the development of total maximum daily loads (TMDL) at monitoring locations on U.S. Environmental Protection Agency 303(d) listed segments. The data tables include Escherichia coli, total recoverable iron, and dissolved selenium concentrations, streamflow data, and computed loads as...
