1:100k Fish Distribution obtained from the Oregon Dept. of Fish and Wildlife for the Western Oregon Plan Revision. BLM (Bureau of Land Management), WOPR (Western Oregon Plan Revision), WOPR Theme Group: FSH (Fish) WOPR Phase: AA (All Alternatives) WOPR Purpose: A (Analysis) Supplemental Information from ODFW as follows: Procedures_Used: These data were intitially developed by ODFW's Bull Trout coordinator and are based on data collected through 2000 by state, federal and tribal fishery biologists. Those data represent areas of documented Bull Trout presence. Most surveys captured by the initial dataset were completed during the summer and fall months. Wintertime distributions could vary significantly from summer/fall...

Introduction Relatively little data describing the quality of groundwater in New York State exists, yet groundwater is used as a source of drinking water by approximately one quarter of the population of the state. The objective of the 305(b) groundwater quality monitoring project is to quantify and report on ambient groundwater quality from bedrock and glacial-drift aquifers in upstate New York. An ongoing cooperative project between the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) and New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC) Division of Water, this study supports NYSDEC’s responsibilities under Section 305(b) of the Clean Water Act Amendments of 1977. The resulting data set will be used to establish...

Background / Problem Hurricane Irene Figure 1 shows the declared counties for Hurricane Irene (FEMA) Five to ten inches of rain from Hurricane Irene produced widespread moderate to major flooding throughout eastern New York August 28-30. Highest rainfall totals occurred in the Catskill Mountains of southeastern New York where over 18-inches of rain was reported at Maplecrest, NY. Record water-surface elevations and streamflows were recorded at 60 USGS streamgages and 2 lake/reservoirs. Provisional recurrence intervals of peak flows exceeded the 100-yr flood (1 percent annual chance flood) at 25 USGS streamgages. Provisional recurrence intervals of peak flows exceeded the 500-yr flood (0.2 percent annual chance...

Background: The New York State Departments of Environmental Conservation (NYS DEC) and Health (NYS DOH) are concerned about groundwater contamination in the carbonate-bedrock aquifers in New York, especially relating to the unintended introduction of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and liquid manure to these aquifers. These carbonate rocks form extensive aquifers that transmit, and can yield, water from solution-enlarged fractures, bedding planes, and other openings (Olcott, 1995). Groundwater contamination from liquid manure application (fecal coliform bacteria [E. coli] and nitrate) has been on the increase over the past decade as these incidents have been reported to the NYS DEC. Nitrate is highly water-soluble...

The lakes, rivers, and streams of New York State provide an essential water resource for the State. The information provided by time series hydrologic data is essential to understanding ways to promote healthy instream ecology and to strengthen the scientific basis for sound water management decision making in New York. The U.S. Geological Survey, in cooperation with The Nature Conservancy and the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority, has developed the New York Streamflow Estimation Tool to estimate a daily mean hydrograph for the period from October 1, 1960, to September 30, 2010, at ungaged locations across the State. The New York Streamflow Estimation Tool produces a complete estimated daily...
