These data are high-resolution bathymetry (riverbed elevation) and depth-averaged velocities in comma-delimited table format, generated from hydrographic and velocimetric surveys near highway bridge structures over the Missouri and Mississippi Rivers near St. Louis, Missouri, August 3–10, 2020. Hydrographic data were collected using a high-resolution multibeam echosounder mapping system (MBMS), which consists of a multibeam echosounder (MBES) and an inertial navigation system (INS) mounted on a marine survey vessel. Data were collected as the vessel traversed the river along planned survey lines distributed throughout the reach. Data collection software integrated and stored the depth data from the MBES and the...

As the urban landscape and municipal infrastructure in U.S. cities changes in response to socio-economic conditions, so does the manner in which water cycles through these cities. The modulation of hydrologic processes (e.g., runoff, infiltration, evapotranspiration) by land use and land cover has implications for resilience, sustainability, and optimizing municipal service functions. The U.S. Geological Survey and U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Office of Research and Development, collaborated to address the question of how Legacy (standard) and recent (Urban Greening Program or "Green") vacant lots – each the product of a certain approach to the widespread practice of demolition – differ in terms of how...

These data are high-resolution bathymetry (riverbed elevation) and depth-averaged velocities in ASCII format, generated from hydrographic and velocimetric surveys near highway bridge structures over the Missouri River between Kansas City and St. Louis, Missouri, for dates ranging from 2010 to 2017. Data collection software integrated and stored the depth data from the MBES and...
The text file "Near_Surface_Soil_Hydrology_measurements.txt" contains discrete measurements of soil hydrologic characteristics including unsaturated hydraulic conductivity, saturated hydraulic conductivity, and soil penetrometer (compaction) measurements for selected deconstruction lot pairs and restored prairie in St. Louis, Missouri. Data were collected from August 28, 2019, through July 14, 2020. Data for matched and adjacent Legacy and Green deconstruction lots and restored prairie sample sites were collected on the same day to minimize temporal variability in site conditions.
The text file "Piezometer_time_series.txt" contains recorded observations of water levels and temperature for 16 piezometers installed in four deconstruction lot pairs. Water levels are presented as depth below the ground surface and as altitude above the National Vertical Datum of 1988. Lot pairs consisted of a Legacy deconstruction lot and an adjacent Green program deconstruction lot. There are four piezometers in each Legacy-Green lot pair. Both Legacy and Green lots had a shallow (6 or 6.5 foot) piezometer installed within the footprint of the deconstructed structure on the lot (piezometer 1) . The Legacy lots also had two piezometers installed outside of the structure footprint and included one shallow (6 foot;...
The text file "Soil_sample_analyses_1.txt" contains results of discrete soil samples (cores and surface samples) collected at selected vacant lot locations in St. Louis, Missouri, in November and December of 2018. Sample results include soil organic matter (SOM) weight loss, black carbon weight loss, inorganic carbon weight loss, soil organic matter in milligrams per gram (mg/g), black carbon in mg/g, and inorganic carbon in mg/g, and black carbon fraction in percent. Samples were analyzed by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Office of Research and Development using methods provided in Schifman and others (2018). References Cited: Schifman, L.A., Prues, A., Gilkey, K., and Shuster, W.D., 2018, Black carbon...
The text file "Soil_sample_analyses_2.txt" contains results of discrete soil samples (surface samples) collected at selected vacant lot locations in St. Louis, Missouri, in June and July of 2020. Soil samples were collected from 35 legacy or standard demolition lots and 35 Urban Greening Program (green) demolition lots. Soil samples also were collected at the restored Calvary Prairie in the Calvary Cemetery in St. Louis, Missouri. Sample results include soil particle size (percent sand, silt, clay) which indicates soil texture, soil organic matter in percent, total organic carbon, in percent; and total nitrogen, in percent. Samples were analyzed by the Kansas State University Soils Testing Laboratory, Manhattan,...

These data are high-resolution bathymetry (riverbed elevation) and depth-averaged velocities in ASCII format, generated from hydrographic and velocimetric surveys near highway bridge structures over the Missouri and Mississippi Rivers near St. Louis, Missouri, for dates ranging from 2008 to 2016. The text file "Weather_station_data.txt" contains hourly data collected by a Campbell Scientific ET107 weather station located in St. Louis, Missouri. Data were collected from November 28, 2019 through September 17, 2020. Weather station data sets include windspeed, wind direction, air temperature, relative humidity, solar radiation, soil volumetric water content, and soil temperature, and computed potential evapotranspiration.
The text file "Soil_moisture_temperature.txt" contains 5-minute recorded observations of soil moisture volume and soil temperature at discrete soil depths at four Legacy and Green deconstruction lot pairs in St. Louis, Missouri. Data were collected between July 24, 2019 and September 17, 2020. Soil moisture volume is measured in percent and soil temperature is measured in degrees Celsius. Soil moisture is measured at 10-centimeter increments in depth and the total depth varies among sites from 30 to 90 centimeters. Sites are as follows (L indicates a Legacy site and G indicates a Green site): site SML-1 (Latitude 38.67741, Longitude -90.26539) site SMG-1 (Latitude 38.67749, Longitude -90.26537) site SML-2...
