Understanding the physiological impacts of climate change on arid lands species is a critical step towards ensuring the resilience and persistence of such species under changing temperature and moisture regimes. Fire in the western U.S. poses one of the greatest threats to human and ecological communities alike. In fact, fire management is the largest single expenditure of land management funds on federal lands. Now, climate change is altering wildfire patterns. ![]() These soil map units were extracted from the STATSGO dataset for soils of the conterminous US to the extent of the pinyon-juniper woodland mortality datset (http://app.databasin.org/app/pages/datasetPage.jsp?id=71d55a65fc0244a68c627fdbcc887efa) . The MUSYMs were compared to STATSGO tables to determine soil series, associations and taxonomy. This information was along with the NRCS official soil series description website: http://ortho.ftw.nrcs.usda.gov/cgi-bin/osd/osdname.cgi to create the attribute tables showing series names, representative orders, textures, soil climates and diagnostic horizons present in each soil map unit.
