Survey data was integrated within a GIS by georeferencing observations to an existing national spatial framework (National Hydrography Dataset), which allows for broader transferability to watersheds shared with neighboring states, creating a seamless layer not limited by state boundaries. Addressing the management and conservation challenges for native fishes will require the ability to “data mine” the extensive existing information on distribution and abundance of species available from aquatic survey programs. Results from such syntheses can be used to assess the current conservation status of native fishes, quantify the extent of species invasions, and establish baseline distributions with which to evaluate...

The Shivwits Band of the Paiute Indian Tribe of Utah (PITU) has recognized the need to identify and assess the potential impacts of landscape-level stressors, such as climate change and drought, on tribal and ancestral lands and resources, such as water resources and culturally significant species and the habitats and ecosystems that support them. With funding from the Southern Rockies Landscape Conservation Cooperative, the Shivwits hired Barbara Dugelby1 of Round River Conservation Studies to conduct the assessment and prepare this report. The results of this report and the assessment will be integrated into the overall landscape level assessment of SRLCC priorities. This report presents a summary of the findings...

Multiple systems exist classifying the protection status of lands on a national and global scale. To quantify the level of protected status of lands within the SRLCC, a classification scheme developed by the U.S. Geological Survey GAP program was used. This system classifies parcels of land on a 1-4 scale, with 1 being the most protected and 4 the least. Protected Areas Database of the US, PAD-US (CBI Edition) 2012. Conservation Biology Institute. The landscape of the Southern Rockies Landscape Conservation Cooperative (SRLCC) is diverse with mountain peaks over 14,000 feet in the Rocky Mountains to the basement of one of the largest gorges in the world, the Grand Canyon. Variation at this scale lends to a terrestrial composition as varied as its topography. According to the latest dataset used, shrub\scrub and evergreen forest land cover types dominate. Anthropogenic development classified as either urban or agriculture cover only a small portion of the SRLCC. Alterations of the landscape are monopolized by shrub\scrub and forest land covers, but are less significant when compared with their total area across the landscape. The National Land Cover Database...
To quantify the composition of land ownership, datasets developed by multiple Bureau of Land Management (BLM) state offices were assembled to get a comprehensive dataset spanning the entire SRLCC. Comprehensive datasets mapping the human alteration of the natural landscape are rare. One such model, “The Human Footprint of the West”, was developed to map human disturbance as of 2001 for the Western U.S. Matthias Leu, Steven E. Hanser, and Steven T. Knick 2008. THE HUMAN FOOTPRINT IN THE WEST: A LARGE-SCALE ANALYSIS OF ANTHROPOGENIC IMPACTS. Ecological Applications 18:1119–1139. Available: http://dx.doi.org/10.1890/07-0480.
