OBIS-USA brings together marine biological occurrence data – recorded observations of identifiable marine species at a known time and place, collected primarily from U.S. Waters or with U.S. funding. Coordinated by the Science Analytics and Synthesis (SAS) Program of the United States Geological Survey (USGS), OBIS-USA, strives to meet national data integration and dissemination needs for marine data about organisms and ecosystems. OBIS-USA is part of an international data sharing network (Ocean Biogeographic Information System, OBIS) coordinated by the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission, of UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Science and Cultural Organization) International Oceanographic Data and Information...
This data set consists of four images showing seasonal sea surface temperature (SST) averages for the entire earth. Data for the years 1985-2001 are averaged to produce each seasonal image. The seasons are January-March (sst001i4km.tif), April-June (sst002i4km.tif), July-September (sst003i4km.tif), and October-December (sst004i4km.tif). These SST data are the result of the 4 km Pathfinder effort at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) National Oceanographic Data Center (NODC) and the University of Miami's Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Science (RSMAS), which uses data from the NOAA-9, NOAA-11, NOAA-14, and NOAA-16 satellites. The 4 km Pathfinder effort at NODC is an improvement...
This data set collects, from peer-reviewed research, values of sea surface temperature (SST) that occurred at various sites across the Earth during a brief period of the mid-Piacenzian
Sensitivity of simulated CFC-11 distributions in a global ocean model to the treatment of salt rejected during sea-ice formation

Effect of sea-ice extent on adult survival of an Antarctic top predator: the snow petrel Pagodroma nivea
This data set represents the results of calculations carriedout on sea-ice-concentration data from the SMMR and SSM/Iinstruments. The original data were obtained from theNational Snow and Ice Data Center (NSIDC). The data set alsocontains the source code of the programs that made thecalculations. The objective was to derive monthly averagesfor the whole 13.25-year series (1978-1991) and to derive acomposite series of monthly averages representing thevariation of an average year. The resulting file set containsmonthly images for each of the polar regions for each year, yielding 160 files for each pole, and composite monthlyaverages in which the years are combined, yielding 12 morefiles. Averaging the images in this...
