This dataset is a compilation of all available multibeam and single-beam sonar bathymetry in the Eastern Samoa Volcanic Province (ESVP) as of November 20, 2007. Bathymetric datasets were compiled and gridded using the software package MB-System. Cell resolution is 200 meters.

-- Methods -- The Weather Research and Forecast model (WRF) is applied to construct triply-nested meshes. The outermost domain (20-km horizontal resolution) is large enough to cover almost the whole tropical and subtropical areas from the central Pacific to the western Pacific. The intermediate domain has 4-km horizontal resolution, and the innermost domain of each individual island has a horizontal resolution of 0.8 km. The driving fields for the atmosphere are the NASA Modern-Era Retrospective Analysis for Research and Applications reanalysis, and the sea surface temperature (SST) is from NOAA. This dataset is a compilation of a USGS 1:24000 DEM, multibeam sonar bathymetry and bathymetry derived from Ikonos satellite imagery to provide for terrestrial data, depths from 15 m to 250 m and depths from 0 m to 15 m, respectively. The compilation creates a coastal terrain model (CTM) of the island of Tutuila, American Samoa. The image processing required to derive bathymetry from spectral data were performed using the software package ENVI 4.3. The DEM, multibeam bathymetry and derived bathymetry datasets were compiled and regridded using the ArcGIS 9.2 software package. Cell resolution is 5 m. Ferromanganese crust samples were collected via dredge during four oceanographic research cruises to the western equatorial Pacific Ocean. The location (latitude, longitude, depth) and concentrations of 27 major and trace elements in the most recent growth layers of ferromanganese crusts from 57 dredge sites are presented here, as well as select seawater chemistry at each location. These data were used in statistical analyses to determine how oceanographic conditions affect the chemical composition of ferromanganese crusts throughout the region.
