This dataset contains the recorded water temperatures of specific sites in western Lake Erie, Saginaw Bay in Lake Huron, and Grand Traverse Bay in Lake Michigan during the summer of 2015. Sites with just a number were from Lake Erie. Sites from Grand Traverse Bay have a GTB prefix; Saginaw Bay= SB prefix.
Well-established conservation planning principles and techniques framed by geodesign were used to assess the restorability of areas that historically supported coastal wetlands along the U.S. shore of Saginaw Bay. The resulting analysis supported planning efforts to identify, prioritize, and track wetland restoration opportunity and investment in the region. To accomplish this, publicly available data, criteria derived from the regional managers and local stakeholders, and geospatial analysis were used to form an ecological model for spatial prioritization.
These data include a field study of the sediment hardness and fish egg density (walleye [Sander vitreus] and lake whitefish [Coregonus clupeaformis]) after sediment cleaning treatments (propulsion sled or hydro-jet sled) conducted at two reef locations in Saginaw Bay, Lake Huron, during 2018 and 2019. The data includes the year, species, reef, treatment type (jet, fan, control), number of eggs, and egg density in the treatment area. Relative sediment hardness for the treatment areas assessed before and after sediment cleaning experiments is provided. Additionally, walleye eggs were collected from Brookville Reservoir, Indiana, and incubated at the aquaculture research laboratory at Purdue University (West Lafayette,...

Egg mat retention trials were conducted with walleye (Stizostedion vitreum) and lake whitefish (Coregonus clupeaformis) eggs in an experimental flume tank, seeded directly on egg mats (test retention efficiency) and hand dispersed in flowing flume water to simulate spawning over egg mats (test capture efficiency) with and without alternate substrate. In the field study, we measured number of eggs collected on mats and with bottom drift nets in the Detroit River to compare capture effectiveness. The field collection data describe the number, date of collection, and exact collection location of target species (walleye and lake whitefish). The flume trial data include number of eggs retained or collected, water velocity,...

This dataset is the output of a python script/ArcGIS model that identifes dikes as having a difference in elevation above a certain threshold. If the elevation difference was below a certain threshold the area was not considered a dike; however, if the difference in elevation between two points was significantly high then the area was marked as a dike. Areas continuous with eachother were considered part of the same dike. Post processing occured. Users examined the data output, comparing the proposed dike locations to aerial imagery, flowline data, and the DEM. Dikes that appeared to be false positives were deleted from the data set.

This represents the flowline network in Sagina Bay Restoration Assessment (SBRA). It is attributed with the number of disconnections between the reach and the connecting river system. These data will help identify the condition of hydrologic separation between potential restoration areas and the connecting river system. Low numbers represent fewer disconnections such as culverts between the reach and the rivers requiring no flow network modification to restore the area.

This dataset contains a tabular file of phytoplankton abundance and community composition analysis in samples collected from eight sites in the Western Lake Erie Basin; four sites in Grand Traverse Bay, Lake Michigan; and five sites in Saginaw Bay, Lake Huron. Samples were collected and processed by the Great Lakes Science Center of the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) and analyzed by BSA Environmental Inc. Lake Erie sample collection spanned years 2014-2018 with some sites sampled throughout this period and other sites sampled in only some years. Sample collection in Grand Traverse Bay, Lake Michigan and Saginaw Bay, Lake Huron occurred in 2015. Sample collection was focused in summer and early fall months and data...
This vector polygon feature class was developed from the Upper Midwest & Great Lakes Landscape Conservation Cooperative's Coastal Conservation Working Group (CCWG) "Designing the Coastal Wetlands of Tomorrow" September 6th, 2017 stakeholder workshop. The polygon features represent potential areas of coastal wetland opportunities and were derived from paper maps marked up by workshop participants that they believed to be areas of opportunity for coastal wetland protection (maintain and protect current wetlands), restoration (add wetlands or increase size of a wetland), or enhancement (improve the quality of a wetland). The CCWG is particularly interested in these opportunities to partner and provide support for coastal...

This tabular data set contains information about the diets of angler-caught Lake Trout (Salvelinus namaycush), Walleye (Sander vitreus), Chinook Salmon (Oncorhynchus tshawytscha), Coho Salmon (O. kisutch), Atlantic Salmon (Salmo salar), Steelhead (O. mykiss), Pink Salmon (O. gorbuscha), and Brown Trout (Salmo trutta) captured between April and October of 2017 and 2018 from U.S. waters of Lake Huron. Diet items were identified to lowest taxa, enumerated, measured, and prey biomass determined.
