Digital elevation model (DEM) of the Sacramento River Deep Water Ship Channel (DWSC), Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta, California
This metadata describes a digital elevation model (DEM) created from bathymetric and topographic data collected between 2017 and 2019 in the Sacramento River Deep Water Ship Channel (DWSC), northern Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta, California. We merged the newly collected bathymetric and topographic data presented in this data release (DOI:10.5066/P9AQSRVH) with 2019 surveys by the California Department of Water Resources (DWR) and 2017 USGS Sacramento Delta Lidar, to produce a seamless digital elevation model of the DWSC at a grid resolution of 1 m.
Aerial imagery from UAS survey of the Liberty Island Conservation Bank Wildlands restoration site, Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta, California, 2018-10-23
This portion of the data release presents the raw aerial imagery collected during the Unmanned Aerial System (UAS) survey of the Liberty Island Conservation Bank Wildlands restoration site in the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta on 2018-10-23. The imagery was acquired using two Department of Interior owned 3DR Solo quadcopters fitted with Ricoh GR II digital cameras featuring global shutters. The cameras were mounted using a fixed mount on the bottom of the UAS and oriented in a roughly nadir orientation. The UAS were flown on pre-programmed autonomous flight lines at an approximate altitude of 120 meters above-ground-level, resulting in a nominal ground-sample-distance (GSD) of 3.2 centimeters per-pixel. The flight...

Digital surface model (DSM) for the Liberty Island Conservation Bank Wildlands restoration site, Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta, California, 2018-10-23
This portion of the data release presents a digital surface model (DSM) and hillshade of the Liberty Island Conservation Bank Wildlands restoration site in the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta. The DSM has a resolution of 10 centimeters per-pixel and was derived from structure-from-motion (SfM) processing of aerial imagery collected with an Unmanned Aerial System (UAS) on 2018-10-23. Unlike a digital elevation model (DEM), the DSM represents the elevation of the highest object within the bounds of a cell. Vegetation, buildings and other objects have not been removed from the data. In addition, data artifacts resulting from noise in the original imagery have not been removed. The raw imagery used to create this DSM was...

Bathymetric DEM of the Sacramento River, from the Feather River to Knights Landing, California in February 2011
This part of the data release presents a digital elevation model (DEM) created from bathymetry data collected on February 1, 2011, in the Sacramento River from the confluence of the Feather River to Knights Landing. The data were collected by the USGS Pacific Coastal and Marine Science Center (PCMSC) team with collaboration and funding from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. This project used interferometric sidescan sonar to characterize the riverbed and channel banks along a 12 mile reach of the Sacramento River, California (River Mile 79 through River Mile 91) to aid in the understanding of fish response to the creation of safe habitat associated with levee restoration efforts in two 1.5 mile reaches of the Sacramento...
Assessing spatial variability of nutrients, phytoplankton and related water-quality constituents in the California Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta at the landscape scale: 2020 High-resolution mapping surveys
The dataset documents the spatial and temporal variability of nutrients and related water quality parameters at high spatial resolution in the North Delta and Central Delta, in the Sacramento-San Joaquin River Delta of California, USA. The dataset includes nitrate, ammonium, phosphate, dissolved organic carbon, temperature, conductivity, dissolved oxygen, and chlorophyll as well as information about phytoplankton community composition. Data-collection cruises were conducted under three different environmental/flow conditions in June, July, and August of 2020. The data release consists of a xml document, text, csv, and shapefiles documents. Descriptions for each document and file are listed below. NOTE: Files marked...
Long-term UHF RiverSonde river velocity observations at Castle Rock, Washington and Threemile Slough, California
Long-term, non-contact river velocity measurements have been made using a UHF RiverSonde system for several months at each of two locations having quite different flow characteristics. Observations were made on the Cowlitz River at Castle Rock, Washington from October 2003 to June 2004, where the unidirectional flow of the river ranged from about 1.0 to 3.5 m/s. The radar velocity was highly correlated with the stage height which was continually measured by the U. S. Geological Survey. The profile of the along-channel velocity across the water channel also compared favorably with in-situ measurements performed by the Survey. The RiverSonde was moved to Threemile Slough, in central California, in September 2004 and...
Borehole Erosion Test data, Lower American and Sacramento Rivers, California, 2019 (ver. 3.0, July 2020)
Borehole erosion tests were performed to quantify sediment erosion rates as a function of depth below grade and flow speed at locations along the Sacramento and American Rivers in 2019. The dataset consists of: - borehole caliper files describing the initial geometry of the borehole, and its shape after each test flow event, - where available, a digital time series describing discharge into the hole - where available, a digital time series describing water level in the water supply tank - log sheets with details such as test location, date, and personnel - digital log sheets in .pdf format include field-based and laboratory-based soil classification data, see "Drilling log file explanation.txt" for explanation of...
Water-surface elevations and temperature data collected for the NASA/JPL AirSWOT campaign on the Sacramento River, near Colusa, CA, for the period March – May, 2015
This dataset is one part of a larger field dataset collected during March - May 2015 along the Sacramento River, near Colusa, CA. This particular dataset contains water-surface elevation and temperature data from 35 stationary pressure transducers spaced approximately every few kilometers along the Sacramento River upstream and downstream of Colusa, CA. The locations of the transducers were determined with RTK GPS with high precisions in both horizontal and vertical dimensions. The water-surface elevations were determined from the transducer pressure readings by using the nearest of six deployed barometric transducers, typically located within less than 10 kilometers.
Field measurements of water depth were acquired from a reach of the upper Sacramento River in northern California, September 12-14, 2017, to support research on salmon habitat and geomorphic change along the Sacramento River and, more broadly, remote sensing of rivers. The depth measurements included in this data release were obtained by wading the shallow channel margins with RTK GPS receivers and measuring water surface elevations along the water's edge and bed elevations within the channel; depths were calculated by subtracting bed elevations from the nearest water surface elevation. For the deeper areas representing most of the channel, depths were recorded along a series of cross-sections by a SonTek RiverSurveyor...
