Shallow subsurface electrical conductivity was mapped at North Root National Wildlife Refuge (NWR) in northeast Montana using the DUALEM421 electromagnetic sensor (Dualem, Inc., ON, Canada) in the winter of 2017. Data were acquired by towing the DUALEM421 sensor on a sled behind an all-terrain vehicle or snow machine, with the sensor at a nominal height of 0.3 meters (m) above ground surface. Approximately 9 line-kilometers (km) of data were acquired over an area of approximately 1 square-kilometer. Data were manually edited to remove sensor dropouts, lag corrected for apparent offsets between recorded GPS location and data locations for each coil pair, and averaged to a sounding distance of 1m along the survey...

Data were acquired by towing the DUALEM421 sensor on a sled behind an all-terrain vehicle or snow machine, with the sensor at a nominal height of 0.3 meters (m) above ground surface. Approximately 127 line-kilometers (km) of data were acquired over an area of approximately 8 square-kilometers. At this survey location, the 4m transmitter-receiver horizontal co-planar and perpendicular coil orientations did not function due to equipment malfunction. Data were manually edited to remove sensor dropouts,...

Airborne electromagnetic (AEM) and magnetic survey data were collected during October 2014 in a 553-square-kilometer area that includes the East Poplar oil field on the Fort Peck Indian Reservation in northeastern Montana, USA. Data surround the city of Poplar and extend south into the Missouri River floodplain. Data were acquired with the SkyTEM301 transient electromagnetic helicopter-borne system together with a Geometrics G-822 magnetometer. The AEM average depth of investigation is about 80 m. The survey was flown at a nominal flight height of 30 m above terrain along north-south oriented flight lines; the majority of lines had a nominal spacing of 200 m with a sub-block area in the central portion of the oil...

A well-dated pollen record from a large lake located on the meadow?steppe ecotone provides a history of ecotone shift in response to monsoonal climate changes over the last 6000 years in the central Tibetan Plateau. The pollen record indicates that the ecotone shifted eastward during 6000?4900, 4400?3900, and 2800?1600 cal. yr BP when steppes occupied this region, whereas it shifted westward during the other intervals when the steppes were replaced by meadows. The quantitative reconstruction of paleoclimate derived from the pollen record shows that monsoon precipitation fluctuated around the present level over the last 6000 years in the central Tibetan Plateau. Three major drought episodes of 5600?4900, 4400?3900,...

Plants of four Great Basin grass species were grown from seed in two greenhouses at low (340 ? l l-1) and high (680 ? l l-1) CO2 concentration. In all four species, high CO2 promoted mean increases in the number of basal stems, leaf area, specific leaf weight and above-ground dry weight. High CO2 resulted in an increase in CO2 assimilation in two C3 grasses but not in a C4 grass, while all three species showed decreases in stomatal conductance. Mean increases of 60% in aboveground dry weight and 80% in water-use-efficiency are consistent with previously reported high CO2 effects on grasses. No consistent differential effects of high CO2 were observed when comparing annual vs perennial species. Global CO2 enrichment...
