Five alcoves (rock shelters) in the Forty-Mile Canyon—Willow Gulch area of the Escalante River Basin in southeastern Utah yielded rich deposits of late Quaternary macrobotanical remains. The deposits were sampled and the contents identified in order to construct a chronology of vegetational change. Fourteen radiocarbon dates indicate that the fossils were deposited between 12,690 and 7510 yr B.P. (years before present). Ninety-one plant taxa were identified, 62 to species. Six species were common to all alcoves: Gambel oak (Quercus gambelii), box-elder (Acer negundo), prickly pear (Opuntia subgenus Platyopuntia), skunkbush (Rhus aromatica var. trilobata), serviceberry (Amelanchier utahensis), and Indian ricegrass...

This digital map database, which is compiled from previouslyunpublished and open-filed U.S. Geol. Survey reports (Wesling andHelley, 1989), represents the general distribution and identity ofQuaternary deposits in eight 7.5 minute quadrangles in the southernSan Francisco Bay region, California.
This part of the data release is a spreadsheet including the name, location, and length of sediment cores collected in 2009 offshore from Palos Verdes, California. It is one of seven files included in this U.S. Geological Survey data release that include data from a set of sediment cores acquired from the continental slope, offshore Los Angeles and the Palos Verdes Peninsula, adjacent to the Palos Verdes Fault. Gravity cores were collected by the USGS in 2009 (cruise ID S-I2-09-SC; http://cmgds.marine.usgs.gov/fan_info.php?fan=SI209SC), and vibracores were collected with the Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute’s remotely operated vehicle (ROV) Doc Ricketts in 2010 (cruise ID W-1-10-SC; http://cmgds.marine.usgs.gov/fan_info.php?fan=W110SC)....
Geochemical analyses of authigenic carbonates, bivalves, and pore fluids were performed on samples collected from seep fields along the Queen Charlotte Fault, a right lateral transform boundary that separates the Pacific and North American tectonic plates. Samples were collected using grab samplers and piston cores, and were collected during three different research cruises in 2011, 2015, and 2017.

This part of the data release is a spreadsheet including radiocarbon sample information and calibrated ages of sediment cores collected in 2014 from the northern flank of Monterey Canyon, offshore California. It is one of five files in this U.S. Geological Survey data release that include data from a set of sediment cores acquired from the continental slope, north of Monterey Canyon, offshore central California. Vibracores and push cores were collected with the Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute’s (MBARI’s) remotely operated vehicle (ROV) Doc Ricketts in 2014 (USGS cruise ID 2014-615-FA). One spreadsheet (NorthernFlankMontereyCanyonCores_Info.xlsx) contains core name, location, and length. One spreadsheet...
Surficial geologic map the Newman Peak Quadrangle of the Picacho Basin. The Picacho basin is a large and complex graben surrounded by horsts and half-horsts, which are now the Picacho, Casa Grande, Silverbell, and Sacaton mountains. It formed mainly in response to late Miocene extension. Internal drainage probably persisted until about 3 million years ago. Several thousand meters of sediments fill the basin; 2000 m of evaporites and claystone form the bulk of the basin fill (Scarborough and Pierce, 1978). The upper 200 meters or so of basin fill was deposited by a gradually aggrading, regionally integrated drainage system. Young alluvium of the Santa Cruz River is up to 30 m thick and is found within 3.2 km of the...
