These data are the extraction from PAD-US (CBI Edition) Version 2 of National Historic Park & Sites. PAD-US (CBI Edition) Version 2 is a national database of protected fee lands in the United States. PAD-US (CBI Edition) Version 2 has been redesigned to be used along with the National Conservation Easement Database (NCED), to visualize the entire terrestrial conservation estate of the United States. PAD-US (CBI Edition) Version 2 is limited to the continental U.S., Alaska, and Hawaii. It does not include protected areas data for U.S. territories at this time. Protected areas are cornerstones of national and international conservation strategies. By way of these designations, lands and waters are set aside in-perpetuity...

This map shows over 520 point locations for protected areas in India, which includes national parks, wildlife sanctuaries and biosphere reserves. Point locations for protected areas are linked to biodiversity data from possible sources. It also gives information on administrative units such as districts and states. The data attached to the map provides information available on birds, mammals, reptiles, fish, amphibians and plants species found in a particular protected area. Currently, the information is available for protected areas within Western Ghats (IIPA, 1998; Arekal, 2003; Management Plans, Karnataka Forest Department) and will be updated as per data availability. http://www.unep-wcmc.org/wdpa http://wiienvis.nic.in/gisdatabase.html...

Community protected areas of the project areas of Foundation for This map shows the community protected areas of Foundation for Ecological Security (FES) in different States. It provides the details on the protection, tenure type, village institution, extent of area being protected, agency supporting the protection etc. An attempt has been made by FES to map these community protected areas using GPS and GIS to begin with its own project locations. The larger agenda is to campaign for documenting these community efforts systematically partnering with other agencies, individuals, academia etc. in this effort. IBP is a good platform to participate and contribute towards this and document the rich protection and conservation...

Protected areas are cornerstones of national and international conservation strategies. By way of these designations, lands and waters are set-aside in-perpetuity to preserve functioning natural ecosystems, act as refuges for species, and maintain ecological processes. Complementary conservation strategies preserve land for the sustainable use of natural resources, or for the protection of significant geologic and cultural features or open space. PAD-US 1.1 (CBI Edition) attempts to include all available spatial data on these places. It is our goal to publish the most comprehensive geospatial data set of U. S. protected areas to date. PAD-US 1.1 (CBI Edition) is limited to the continental U.S., Alaska, and Hawaii....

These protected areas were estimated by the Conservation Biology Institute as being secondarily threatened by the corresponding Deepwater Horizon oil spill trajectory forecast in the Gulf of Mexico. This dataset is extracted from PAD-US 1.1 (CBI Edition), and the original metadata has been included here, below. First, protected areas within 1 mile of the entire study area coastline (TX to NJ), or that intersect hydrological feature polygons from the NHDPlus National Hydrography Dataset within the 1-mile coastline buffer, were extracted from PAD-US 1.1 (CBI Edition). Then, protected areas were identified as being under primary, secondary, or tertiary threat from the oil spill. The probability of being affected...

These protected areas were roughly identified by the Conservation Biology Institute as being Secondarily threatened by the Deepwater Horizon oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. The probability of being affected was determined using the University of South Florida's Deepwater Horizon oil spill trajectory forecast from the WFS ROMS numerical model, as projected for 06/11/2010 at 00h UTC (http://ocg6.marine.usf.edu/~liu/oil_spill_ensemble_forecast.html ). (A newer version of these data is now available, Protected Areas - Oregon, October 2012 ) This dataset is an extraction from PAD-US 1.1 (CBI Edition), by state. The PAD-US 1.1 (CBI Edition) data set portrays the nation's protected areas with a standardized spatial geometry and numerous valuable attributes on land ownership, management designations, and conservation status (using national GAP and international IUCN coding systems). The PAD-US 1.1 (CBI Edition) defines protected areas to include all lands dedicated to the preservation of biological diversity and to other natural, recreation and cultural uses, and managed for these purposes through legal or other effective means (adapted from IUCN definition). The...

This polygon data set includes the protected areas of the Southern Mountain States, United States of America that are managed by national, state, provincial, or territorial authorities. As defined by the International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN), a protected area is an area of land and/or sea especially dedicated to the protection and maintenance of biological diversity, and of natural and associated cultural resources, and managed through legal or other effective means. The data set was assembled for the Commission for Environmental Cooperation (CEC) from other public data sets containing data on protected areas in Canada, Mexico, and the United States. Protected area data was obtained from Natural...

Based on forest patch area, location, and hydrologic influence, we ranked the purported need of forest patches for additional conservation-protection. Qualities for higher ranking included forest patches with & greater than 2000 ha of core-forest that was more than 250 m from an edge, forest patches within high priority areas for reforestation, and forest patches with less propensity for flooding. Digital data are provided for: 1. Boundary of the Mississippi Alluvial Valley study area. 2. Forest cover (circa 2015) used to for determination of forest area in need of conservation protection. 3. The conservation estate (circa 2019) that had conservation protection by virtue of ownership, easement, or servitude. 4....

The Protected natural areas of the U.S. Virgin Islands, compiled and identified by the U.S. Virgin Islands Gap Analysis Project (USVIGAP), display terrestrial protected natural areas designated for natural resource conservation in the U.S. Virgin Islands, as well as areas with government regulation that have the potential to protect natural resources. The protection of natural areas is an essential step in conserving biodiversity and maintaining ecosystem services. The benefits and services provided by natural areas include clean water and air, sustainable wildlife populations and habitats, stable slopes and productive soils, genetic reservoirs, recreational opportunities and spiritual refugia. These benefits are...
