PronghornOverallRange is an ESRI SDE Feature Class showing Overall Range, The area which encompasses all known seasonal activity areas within the observed range of a population of pronghorn antelope. This information was derived from field personnel. A variety of data capture techniques were used including drawing on mylar overlays at 1:50,000 scale USGS county mapsheets and implementation of the SmartBoard Interactive Whiteboard using stand-up, real-time digitizing at various scales (Cowardin, M., M. Flenner. March 2003. Maximizing Mapping Resources. GeoWorld 16(3):32-35). Dataset was acquired from a third party distributor who obtained it from CDOW in January 2011. The authoritative data source is available...

Note: The data were created by dissolving on the HERDUNIT attribute of the ant10hh data. This data set represents the 2010 antelope huntarea and herdunit boundaries for Wyoming. It was digitized at a scale of 1:100,000, using USGS 1:100,000 DRGs as a backdrop for heads up digitizing. Huntarea boundary descriptions are part of hunting regulations, which are approved and published annually by the Wyoming Game and Fish Commission. When needed, the 2008 edition (1st Edition) of the Wyoming Road and Recreation Atlas (Benchmark Maps) was consulted for road and other information.

PronghornResidentPopulationArea is an ESRI SDE Feature Classshowing Resident Population Area, An area that provides year round range for a population of pronghorns. The resident animals use all of the area all year long, it cannot be subdivided into seasonal ranges. A resident population may be found within the overall range of a larger, migratory population. This data set represents the 2010 pronghorn antelope seasonal range boundaries for Wyoming. Seasonal range delineations depict lands that are important in each season for certain biological processes within a herd unit. Seasonal range boundaries are based on long-term observation data, specific research projects, and professional judgement. Ranges are digitized at a scale of 1:100,000 using USGS 1:100,000 DRGs as a backdrop for heads up digitizing, and are revised as needed by the Wyoming Game and Fish Department. Current seasonal range definitions are based on a 1990 document drafted by the Wyoming Chapter of The Wildlife Society in cooperation with the Wyoming Game and Fish Department and federal land agencies.
The objective of the project is to improve the infrastructure of the Red Rim Wildlife Habitat Management Area (WHMA) as well as conduct habitat improvements. Two windmills will be upgraded to solar pumps and panels. Six and a half miles of fence will be converted from woven wire to wildlife friendly fencing and 8 miles of fence will have single strand conversion to meet BLM and WGFD wildlife standards (i.e. the bottom wire is too low or the top wire is too high). An exclosure will be erected around a riparian area to keep cattle out, sagebrush will be thinned (approx. 140 acres), weeds will be treated (approx. 200 acres) and native grasses and legumes sown (approx. 170 acres). The Red Rim WHMA is located southwest...

PronghornLimitedUseArea is an ESRI SDE Feature Class showing Limited Use Area, An area within the overall range of pronghorn that is occasionally inhabited and or contains a small, scattered population of antelope. This is a Northeast California layer showing pronghorn kidding grounds, migration corridors, stress migration corridors, and winter range. These areas were designated by DFG biologists based upon their personal knowledge of these ranges. The purpose of this dataset is to provide locational information regarding Pronghorn range throughout Northern California. The locations of these features are based on the best-professional judgment of DFG Biologists and have not been rigorously examined by current technical means (e.g., telemetry, GPS radio collars, etc). These data were compiled by DFG Unit Biologists in the 1970s under what was then known as the Areas of Significant Biological Importance (ASBI) project performed...

Map of pronghorn distribution developed from a probability of occurrence map created using multi-scale vegetation, abiotic, and anthropogenic features. These data were released prior to the October 1, 2016 effective date for the USGS’s policy dictating the review, approval, and release of scientific data as referenced in USGS Survey Manual Chapter 502.8 Fundamental Science Practices: Review and Approval of Scientific Data for Release.

In May 2014, the GNLCC Steering Committee approved two pilot projects explore approaches to landscape-scale coordination to enhance science-based management across the GNLCC. The two ‘Shared Landscape Outcomes’ pilots were designed to assess and focus on specific pairs of a GNLCC Goal and a priority landscape stressor (as defined in the Strategic Conservation Framework) and focus the approach at the entire GNLCC scale. The two pilot projects focused on (1) the Connectivity goal and Land Use Change stressor (described here) and (2) the Aquatic Integrity goal and Invasives stressor and (see: http://greatnorthernlcc.org/PTS/prj_report.html?PRJ_ID=403 )Connectivity Pilot:Wildlife species are becoming increasingly isolated...

This project will apply the results of an on-going climate change vulnerability assessment to the management of two complex landscapes. The vulnerability assessment project team will work with mangers, land-owners, and conservation practitioners to explore 1) how downscaled climate datasets, modeled vegetation changes, and information on estimated species sensitivities can be used to develop climate change adaptation strategies, and 2) how model results and datasets can be made more useful for informing the management of species and landscapes. To accomplish these two goals, we will prepare datasets and model outputs for two landscapespotentially, the Pioneer Mountains-Craters of the Moon region in Idaho and the...

Winter Distribution of Pronghorn Antelope in Arizona.
thumbnail
This project improves the age class and diversity of plant communities. Improving transitional range will help hold the antelope and deer in this area, saving crucial winter areas for use later in the season. Other wildlife benefitting from this treatment are small mammals and a variety of birds, including sage grouse. Quality, quantity, and availability of forage in this transitional-migratory area will be improved. The units of accomplishments for this project, 10,000 acres (JM), are shared with multiple funding sources; due to the timing of the project; some units will carry over into FY 08. Some of the included acres are within the Wildland Urban Interface (JW).

NOAA total mean monthly snow depth data was obtained and represents the mean monthly total accumulation derived from 4km raster data. It does not incorporate melting, compression or sublimation. Scoring of the snow depth was as follows: depths less than 15 inches were preferred and over 15 inches were considered low quality. Snow depth data for the month of March was selected for analysis based on the importance of snowmelt and spring greenup to provide nutrition to late gestational does, and in restricting the amount of habitat and migration corridors that are available to migratory pronghorn.

The Madison Valley is an important wildlife linkage zone between core habitats at the center of the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem (GYE) and habitats at the western edge of the GYE and beyond. This report identifies lands in the Madison Valley watershed which are significant for conservation based on the common occurrence of key threats to wildlife and their critical habitats and migration corridors. The species emphasized in this report - grizzly bear, wolverine, and pronghorn antelope - were selected for their need to move across or along the valley to maintain traditional migration routes, enable genetic exchange across the valley, or expand into unoccupied habitat. The selected species are also intended to serve...
