Wild insect pollination has significant positive effects on pollinator-dependent crop production. To assess the spatial distribution of potential wild insect pollination, we mapped the supply of potential wild pollinator habitat (forest, grassland, wetland, and shrubland land cover types) based on the 2011 National Land Cover Dataset.

A Common Resource Area is defined as a geographical area where resource concerns, problems, or treatment needs are similar. It is considered a subdivision of an existing Major Land Resource Area (MLRA) map delineation or polygon. Landscape conditions, soil, climate, human considerations, and other natural resource information are used to determine the geographic boundaries of a CRA.

In order to identify areas within the Mississipi River Basin (MRB) where implementing wildlife conservation actions could potentially provide the highest benefit to both local waters and the Gulf of Mexico the Miss. River Basin/Gulf Hypoxia Initiative identified a "Water Quality Priority Zone". This provisional zone of interest represents HUC-8 watersheds having the highest potential for nutrient export from agricultural sources (using nitrogen as a surrogate). Pilot Basins are HU-4 basins where there is an alignment of ecological and production systems of interest with areas thought to be producing significant agricultural nutrient loads and possessing significant implementation interests. These provisional basins represent areas of greatest opportunity in terms of need and potential for conservation delivery. Two tiers of pilot basins were identified for version 1.02 of the Conservation Blueprint. This dataset consists of the microsatellite genotypes, collection data, and ownership data for 1461 specimens of Bombus occidentalis. The dataset includes both recognized subspecies, Bombus occidentalis occidentalis and Bombus occidentals mckayi. The subspecies have since been elevated to species status and are currently described as Bombus occidentalis and Bombus mckayi. The specimens were collected from across the historical species range primarily between 1960 and 2020, with few specimens from earlier than 1960 and the oldest from 1904. The specimens are owned and housed by 10 different institutions, which is noted for each specimen.

Potential pollinator habitat was derived by ranking land use classifications and grassland quality based on ground truthing and remotely sensed features indicative of remnant prairie. High resolution (10m) land use data served as the basemap (Hartley et al 2017) from which most categories were identified. All known prairie remnants, prairie plantings, and clusters of mima mounds were delineated. Mima mounds were detected by deriving a slope at 1m scale with greater than 5% from high resolution LiDar data (3m). We conducted the first investigation of insect community responses to post-fire seeding on public rangelands by comparing the composition of insect communities at burned-and-seeded (treatment) and burned-and-unseeded (control) sagebrush-steppe ecological sites in southwestern Idaho. Insect communities in burned areas were compared to unburned (reference) areas. We collected insect and vegetation data within and around the burn perimeter of the 2007 Murphy Fire (652,209 ha), 2002 Big Crow Fire (1,134 ha), and 1995 Clover Fire (78,102 ha) in southwestern Idaho, USA.
