Aeromagnetic data were collected along flight lines by instruments in an aircraft that recorded magnetic-field values and locations. This dataset presents latitude, longitude, altitude, and magnetic-field values.
Sea floor maps showing topography, sun-illuminated topographicimagery, and backscatter intensity of the Stellwagen Bank NationalMarine Sanctuary Region off Boston, Massachusetts
This data set contains the sea floor topographic contours,sun-illuminated topographic imagery, and backscatterintensity generated from a multibeam sonar survey of theStellwagen Bank National Marine Sanctuary region off Boston,Massachusetts, an area of approximately 1100 square nauticalmiles. The Stellwagen Bank NMS Mapping Project is designed toprovide detailed maps of the Stellwagen Bank region'senvironments and habitats and the first complete multibeamtopographic and sea floor characterization maps of asignificant region of the shallow EEZ.Data were collected on four cruises over atwo year period from the fall of 1994 to the fall of 1996.The surveys were conducted aboard the Candian HydrographicService vessel...
Digital spatial data for the map "Earthquakes in and near the northeastern United States, 1638-1998"
The data are those used to make a large-format, colored map ofearthquakes in the northeastern United States and adjacent partsof Canada and the Atlantic Ocean (Wheeler, 2000; Wheeler andothers, 2001; references in Data_Quality_Information, Lineage). The map shows the locations of 1,069 known earthquakes ofmagnitude 3.0 or larger, and is designed for a non-technicalaudience. Colored circles represent earthquake locations, coloredand sized by magnitude. Short descriptions, colonial-erawoodcuts, newspaper headlines, and photographs summarize thedates, times of day, damage, and other effects of notableearthquakes. The base map shows color-coded elevation, shaded toemphasize relief.
The PRISM 8x10 data set represents several years ofinvestigation by PRISM (Pliocene Research, Interpretation, andSynoptic Mapping) Project members. One of the goals of PRISMis to produce time-slice reconstructions of intervals ofwarmer than modern climate within the Pliocene Epoch. Thefirst of these was chosen to be at 3.0 Ma (time scale ofBerggren et al., 1985) and is published in Global andPlanetary Change (Dowsett et al., 1994). This documentcontains the actual data sets and a brief explanation of howthey were constructed. For paleoenvironmental interpretationsand discussion of each data set, see Dowsett et al., inpress. The data sets includes sea level, land icedistribution, vegetation or land cover, sea surfacetemperature...
The data contained in this data set are derived from the NOAAAdvanced Very High Resolution Radiometer Multichannel SeaSurface Temperature data (AVHRR MCSST), which are obtainablefrom the Distributed Active Archive Center at the JetPropulsion Laboratory (JPL) in Pasadena, Calif. The JPL tapescontain weekly images of SST from October 1981 throughDecember 1990 in nine regions of the world ocean: NorthAtlantic, Eastern North Atlantic, South Atlantic, Agulhas,Indian, Southeast Pacific, Southwest Pacific, NortheastPacific, and Northwest Pacific. This data set represents the results of calculations carriedout on the NOAA data and also contains the source code of theprograms that made the calculations. The objective was...
