The U.S. Geological Survey recovered 9 piston cores from theNorthwind Ridge in the Canada Basin of the Arctic Ocean from acruise of the USCGC Polar Star during 1988. Preliminaryanalysis of the cores suggests sediments deposited onNorthwind Ridge preserve a detailed record of glacial andinterglacial cycles for the last few hundred-thousand to onemillion years. This report includes quantitative data onforaminifers and selected sediment size-fraction data insamples from Northwind Ridge core PI-88AR P5.

This data set represents the results of calculations carriedout on sea-ice-concentration data from the SMMR and SSM/Iinstruments. The original data were obtained from theNational Snow and Ice Data Center (NSIDC). The data set alsocontains the source code of the programs that made thecalculations. The objective was to derive monthly averagesfor the whole 13.25-year series (1978-1991) and to derive acomposite series of monthly averages representing thevariation of an average year. The resulting file set containsmonthly images for each of the polar regions for each year,yielding 160 files for each pole, and composite monthlyaverages in which the years are combined, yielding 12 morefiles. A digital magnetic anomaly database and map for the NorthAmerican continent is the result of a joint effort by theGeological Survey of Canada (GSC), U. S. Geological Survey(USGS), and Consejo de Recursos Minerales of Mexico (CRM). Thedatabase and map represent a substantial upgrade from theprevious compilation of magnetic anomaly data for NorthAmerica, now over a decade old.This report presents three unique, gridded data sets used tomake the magnetic anomaly map of North America. All threegrids have 1-km spacing and are projected to the DNAGprojection. Theobjective of this project has been to test the hypothesisthat gas hydrate deposits of the Beaufort Sea continentalshelf are destabilized by the ~10�C temperature increasethat has resulted from the Holocene transgression of theArctic Ocean. The Arctic Ostracode Database provides species census data for about100 species of benthic marine Ostracoda from modern surface and lateQuaternary sediments from various parts of the Arctic Ocean andadjacent seas. Ostracodes are a microfossil group of bivalvedCrustacea that secrete a calcareous shell commonly preserved insediments in the Arctic region. Because many ostracode species haveecological limits controlled by temperature, salinity, oxygen, foodand other factors, they can provide an important tool forpaleoceanographic reconstruction in the Arctic.
