Conserving migratory or wide-ranging species presents considerable challenges, as these individuals move across disparate jurisdictions often crossing international borders among crucial stages of their annual cycle. Within North America, Migratory Bird Joint Ventures (JVs) have established successful partnerships to coordinate the planning and delivery of conservation actions within key regions to benefit migratory bird populations. However, the extent to which local conservation actions influence regional demographics and in turn affect continental population dynamics remains poorly understood. Maximizing efficient use of limited resources to conserve habitats for wide-ranging species has motivated a critical...

GAP species range data shows a coarse representation of the total areal extent of a species or the geographic limits within which a species can be found (Morrison and Hall 2002). To represent these geographic limits, GAP compiled existing GAP data, where available, and NatureServe data (Patterson et al. 2003, Ridgely et al. 2007, NatureServe 2010) IUCN data (IUCN 2004), where needed. Data provided by GAP in collaboration with Southwest Regional Gap Analysis Project (SWReGAP) and the Southeast Gap Analysis Project (SEGAP) . Bird data provided by NatureServe in collaboration with Robert Ridgely, James Zook, The Nature Conservancy ? Migratory Bird Program, Conservation International ? Center for Applied Biodiversity...
The information and data presented herein serve as the supplement to the report, “Spatial Integration of Biological and Social Objectives to Identify Priority Landscapes for Waterfowl Habitat Conservation”. The purpose of this supplemental material is to encourage exploration of the methods used to develop the spatially explicit products presented in the report. The in depth step-by-step methodology is complemented with a geodatabase to facilitate future refinement of the model as new information becomes available in the future. To repeat the process of developing the spatially explicit products (or to create other composite spatial products by varying objectives and weights), follow the methodology described in...
