This data series contains 540 temporal datasets. Wildfire adheres to meteorological enablers and drivers across a spectrum of timescales. However, a majority of downscaling methods are ill suited for wildfire application due the lack of daily timescales and variables such as humidity and winds that are important for fuel flammability and fire spread. Two statistical downscaling methods, the daily Bias-Corrected Spatial Downscaling (BCSD) and the Multivariate Adapted Constructed Analogs (MACA), that directly incorporate daily data were validated over the Western United States with reanalysis data. Daily downscaled data for the Climate Model simulations conducted for the IPCC Fourth Assessment The Climate Impacts Group has analyzed the climate response for the Pacific Northwest simulated by several climate models. These simulations were prepared by climate modeling centers worldwide for the Fourth IPCC Assessement. For consistency with prior work, we include the current versions of models used previously: Hadcm3, Echam5, CCSM3, and PCM1 (CCSM3 is the successor to both the NCAR CSM and DOE PCM). To these we added five additional models to better represent the range of models participating in AR4. These are: CNRM_CM3, CSIRO_MK3 Miroc_3.2, IPSL_CM4, CGCM_3.1, and GISS_ER. This data release contains mean high water (MHW) shorelines for the Outer Cape of Cape Cod, Massachusetts, from Nauset Inlet to Race Point. From 1998-2005, the U.S. Geological Survey surveyed 45 kilometers of coastline 111 times using a ground-based system called Surveying Wide-Area Shorelines (SWASH). The SWASH system used a six-wheeled amphibious all-terrain vehicle as a platform for an array of Global Positioning System sensors. High-accuracy measurements of horizontal position, vertical position, and beach slope were collected at 0.5-second intervals as the vehicle traversed a single, shore-parallel line along the foreshore. Landscape-scale ecological modeling has been hindered by suitable high-resolution surface meteorological datasets that include temperature, precipitation, downward shortwave radiation, humidity and winds. To overcome these limitations, desirable spatial attributes of gridded climate data from PRISM are combined with desirable temporal attributes of regional-scale reanalysis and daily gauge-based precipitation from NLDAS-2 to derive a spatially and temporally complete, high-resolution (4-km) gridded dataset of surface meteorological variables required in ecological modeling for the contiguous United States from 1979-2010. The Regional Climate Downloader (RCD) is a web application that can be used to visualize and download climate data. The RCD uses the Web Mapping Service (WMS) that is built into the Thredds Data Server , (see Disclaimer and Terms of Use ) that allows users to map and download monthly average data for over 60 surface variables generated by the Dynamical Downscaling project. The time coverage of these simulations ranges from 1968 to 2100, depending on the region of simulation and the driving GCM. Decadal, monthly and daily data are available for the Dynamical Downscaling project. Other datasets such as CIG are also available from within RCD. Data are available in NetCDF format.
Ecological models are needed to facilitate evaluation and assessment of alternative approaches to restore Greater Everglades ecosystems. However, the provision of useful and accessible models is a challenge because there is often a disconnect between model developers and model users. Joint Ecosystem Modeling (JEM) was established to meet this challenge, with the goal of getting ecological models into the hands of users. JEM is a partnership among federal and state agencies, universities and other organizations which is currently funded by the USGS Priority Ecosystem Science program, the Everglades National Park, and the Peninsular Florida Landscape Conservation Cooperative.
