The "Broad-scale assessment of biophysical features in Colorado: Terrestrial development index using 1-kilometer moving window" raster dataset quantifies levels of development (urban, agriculture, energy and mineral extraction and transmission, and roads and railroads) for all lands in Colorado. The terrestrial development index (TDI) represents the total percentage of the estimated surface disturbance footprint from development within a 1-kilometer (km) radius moving window. The TDI scores range from 0 to 100 percent. Methods are described in the companion report (see "Larger Work" section).

The American eel (Anguilla rostrata) is an imperiled fish hypothesized to use conspecific cues, in part, to coordinate long distance migration during their multi-stage life history. Here, tissues from multiple American eel life stages were collected and analyzed for the presence and concentration of bile acids. Specifically, samples were collected in the Northern Appalachian Research Laboratory during June 2016 from yellow eel liver, intestine, and gall bladder. Whole body bile acids were also evaluated in glass and elver stage American eel. All eels were held at Northern Appalachian Research Laboratory, Wellsboro, Pennsylvania, prior to sampling. Bile acid analysis was conducted using liquid chromatography coupled...
These data include survival information for Cisco in the laboratory for up to 30 days after surgical implantation of two different sizes of Lotek acoustic tags. Three-hundred fish of a range of sizes were used for the implantation and controls of this experiment, which was repeated three time. Ancillary data of surgical condition, recovery, and time until death or tag expulsion were also recorded, as well as sizes at beginning and end of observation period and estimated growth.
This is an antiquated version of the North American Bird Banding Program dataset that has been superseded by a more recent release. Unless visitors have a specific need for these archived data, they should return to the Main NABBP Dataset Page and choose the most recent data release, as that one will include all NABBP data released to date.

We collected a series of audio recordings of interviews conducted with research participants. The information collected details what was discussed during the conversations between the interviewer (one of our project team members) and project participants, individually, in pairs, or as a group of three people. The audio data were mostly collected in one geographic location: Miami, Oklahoma and several of the audio files were collected over the phone. One interview was conducted via email with typed responses.
The United States Geological Survey (USGS) - Science Analytics and Synthesis (SAS) - Gap Analysis Project (GAP) manages the Protected Areas Database of the United States (PAD-US), an Arc10x geodatabase, that includes a full inventory of areas dedicated to the preservation of biological diversity and to other natural, recreation, historic, and cultural uses, managed for these purposes through legal or other effective means (www.usgs.gov/core-science-systems/science-analytics-and-synthesis/gap/science/protected-areas). The PAD-US is developed in partnership with many organizations, including coordination groups at the [U.S.] Federal level, lead organizations for each State, and a number of national and other non-governmental...

This data release consists of four datasets which were used for evaluating winter drawdown (WD) lakes to follow the Massachusetts general WD guidelines. The first dataset ("Water level observations.csv") provides water level monitoring data of 21 (18 WD and 3 non-WD) recreational lakes in Massachusetts from 2014 to 2018. The water levels were measured by paired nonvented pressure transducers (HOBO U20L-01) and processed by ContDataQC package to remove potential inaccurate observations. For better comparison between lakes, the water level was relativized to each lake's normal pool level. This dataset was used for understanding the hydrology of WD and non-WD lakes and validating the hydrological model that we developed...

Grizzly bear (Ursus arctos) habitat use maps delineate predicted habitat use for grizzly bears around federally designated recovery zones in and near western Montana. These raster data are the official data release for Sells et al. (2022), “Grizzly Bear Habitat Selection Across the Northern Continental Divide Ecosystem” and Sells et al. (2023), “Grizzly bear movement models predict habitat use for nearby populations.” In summary, to better understand habitat selection by grizzly bears, Sells et al. (2022) developed and validated individual-based integrated step-selection functions (iSSFs) for 65 grizzly bears monitored in the Northern Continental Divide Ecosystem (NCDE; including 19 males and 46 females). Step-selection...

These data were compiled to support and inform the Bureau of Land Management’s Colorado Plateau Native Plant Program and to guide future management action when selecting regions to collect and increase seed for native plant materials development. The objective of our study was to develop geospatial datasets to aid land managers and restoration practitioners in identifying areas that will need to be restored in the future (currently disturbed) as well as areas to source new native plant materials for propagation with increased climate similarity to these areas across the Colorado Plateau, Arizona/New Mexico Mountains, and Arizona/New Mexico Plateaus. These data represent species distribution models for 12 high priority...
Wild insect pollination has significant positive effects on pollinator-dependent crop production. To assess the spatial distribution of supply of wild insect pollination, we mapped relative pollinator activity on pollinator-dependent cropland based on each pixel's distance to potential pollinator habitat.

These data are summaries and comparisons of the EverForecast outputs from May 2021. EverForecast is a near-term hydrologic forecasting application that provides daily water depth forecasts across the freshwater Everglades (Pearlstine et al. 2020); water depth forecasts are then used to run species models. Here, we examine the EverForecast outputs of five species models: (1) American alligator production probability (i.e., habitat suitability index (HSI)), (2) Florida apple snail (native) population model (EverSnail), (3) Cape Sable Seaside Sparrow probability of presence model (EverSparrow), (4) small fish density model, and (5) wading bird probability of presence model (EverWaders). These species model outputs...
Nature-based solutions is a leading policy option for mitigating climate change. We mapped areas of potential restoration and conservation opportunities in the conterminous U.S. (CONUS). The potential for five scenarios were examined: increasing forest cover in urban centers, restoring historically forested areas that have been converted to grasslands, conserving pristine grasslands, rewetting peatlands, and conserving vulnerable tidal wetlands.
Shell Island East Barrier Island Restoration (BA-0110): 2013 habitat pre-construction classification
This data set includes mosaicked aerial photographs for the Shell Island East Barrier Island Restoration (BA-0110) project for 2013. This data is used as a basemap habitat classification. If repeated, it can also serve as a visual tool for project managers to help them identify any obvious problems or land loss within their project boundary. To better evaluate the effectiveness of restoration efforts, a habitat classification was performed on specific projects to help assess landscape changes.

Southwestern Colorado is already experiencing the effects of climate change in the form of larger and more severe wildfires, prolonged drought, and earlier snowmelt. Climate scientists expect the region to experience more summer heat waves, longer-lasting and more frequent droughts, and decreased river flow in the future. These changes will ultimately impact local communities and challenge natural resource managers in allocating water under unpredictable drought conditions, preserving forests in the face of changing fire regimes, and managing threatened species under shifting ecological conditions. In light of the wide-ranging potential impacts of climate change in the region, this project sought to help decision-makers...

The dataset supports a larger study that examined the impacts of three tackifiers (guar, psyllium, and polyacrylamide) on growth of two dryland mosses (Bryum argenteum and Syntrichia ruralis). Moss fragments were grown in petri dishes and subjected to individual tackifiers in one of three possible concentrations (0.5x, 1x, or 2x) of the respective manufacturer's recommended application rate. Distilled water was used as a control treatment, giving a total of ten treatments (nine tackifier-concentration combinations and a water control). Bryum fragments were watered four times daily for six weeks and Syntrichia fragments were watered twice daily for five weeks, after which the experiments were concluded. Shoot length,...

Wild insect pollination has significant positive effects on pollinator-dependent crop production. To assess the spatial distribution of potential wild insect pollination, we mapped the supply of potential wild pollinator habitat (forest, grassland, wetland, and shrubland land cover types) and the demand for pollination (directly pollinator-dependent crops). A foraging travel distance for temperate native bees (1308 meters) was used to identify wild pollinator habitat that is within foraging range of pollinator-dependent crops, and pollinator-dependent crops that are within foraging range of pollinator habitat.
Natural land cover can remove pollutants from runoff water by slowing water flow and physically trapping suspended particles. We identified natural land cover in the Southeast US potentially contributing to water purification due to its location in the flowpath between sources of nonpoint-source pollution and waterways.
