This raster is used to answer management questions (MQs) about where conservation elements (CEs) overlap with areas of high wind energy potential in the Mojave Basin and Range Ecoregion. The value indicated in the raster represents a normalized score between 0-1, the lower the value the few species and poorer modeled landscape condition (ecological integrity) expected. This dataset is a raster of predicted suitable bioclimate using statistical correlations between known habitat and current climate (1950-1999 average) , and then projecting that niche into the future. The future timeslices used are 2020's, which is an average of 2020-2029, and 2050's which is 2050-2059. The Values 1-6 show the degree of model agreement (For example: areas with a value of 1 is where only 1 GCM predicted suitability; pixels with a value of 6 are where 6 GCMs predicted suitability, ect). *see Maxent output pdfs for more details about model inputs and settings.

The annual grass index represents a summary score for a CE based upon the amount of the CE itersecting the annual grass model. The summary score is a weighted mean using the following formula. ((C0*0.5+C1*0.05+C2*0.05+C3+0.1+C4*0.1+C5*0.15)/Total Count)/0.5 *where C is the cell count by category. This data is a model of potential habitat connectivity for the Mojave desert tortoise (Gopherus agassizii) for the Mojave Basin and Range ecoregion. Methods for developing this data set: The connectivity modeling software Circuitscape 3.5.7 was used to develop the desert tortoise model. The two inputs needed to model tortoise habitat connectivity with this software were developed in ArcGIS 10. Habitat Input: The USGS model for desert tortoise habitat potential was used to create a series of 167 points representing tortoise habitat throughout the Mojave Basin and Range ecoregion. Areas with high habitat potential (0.7 or higher) were selected and converted to polygons. Polygons smaller than 4,000 acres were removed....

Mapping of terrestrial vertebrates focuses on linking a spatial representation of species-habitat matrices to geographic distribution. Each model is a combination of distribution from regional and state references in association with contiguous appropriate habitats. Ranges for all species were based on 8-digit HUCs. Habitats were based on a raster SWReGAP 1 acre MMU land cover data set, with hydrology habitats added in from USGS NHD dataset directly or through modeling. This shapefile provides general range information for all landscape species for which distributions were mapped based upon models previously developed by the U.S. Geological Survey’s Southwest Regional Gap Analysis Project (SWReGAP). It was created to support the mapping of detailed distributions for these species. The range data provided here represents an amalgamation of range data from SWReGap, the California Wildlife Habitat Relationships database (http://www.dfg.ca.gov/biogeodata/cwhr/cawildlife.aspx ), NatureServe species distribution shapefiles, and expert opinion.
